  • Rise of the mice men

An article by Jeremy Rifkin in the Guardian

What happens when you cross a human and a mouse? Sounds like the beginning of a bad joke but, in fact, it's a serious experiment recently carried out by a team headed by a distinguished molecular biologist, Irving Weissman, at Stanford University.

Scientists injected human brain cells into mouse foetuses, creating a strain of mice that were approximately 1% human. Weissman is considering a follow-up that would produce mice whose brains are 100% human.

It would have to be even larger to have a brain the size of a planet.

When they say the brain would be 100% human, I assume they mean the tissues will be human-derived.

They should try it with dolphins. Can you imagine playing around with supra-intelligent dolphins?

Or maybe with baboons. A good baboon/pitbull terrier/human crossbreed like in 'Watchers'.

They're too many humans we need a good predator to keep us in check.

I don't think an inter-species arms race is a very good idea. And I don't think that keeping a predator around would go down very well with certain people in power. We'd get a War On Chimerae or something, and things would horribly wrong.
