This makes it sound like he (bush) does.
This plan is more sensible as these people already receive assistance from the government.. so I see nothing wrong with that.
For there is [another] kind of violence, slower but just as deadly, destructive as the shot or the bomb in the night. This is the violence of institutions -- indifference, inaction, and decay. This is the violence that afflicts the poor, that poisons relations between men because their skin has different colors. - Bobby Kennedy (Mindless Menance of Violence)

A farm subsidies cut will never pass, it would be political suicide for congresspeople from rural states or districts. Even if it did pass the House, the Senate would kill it because rural states are overrepresented.
Actually it has support of most of the reps from the Midwest farm states. Mostly, these cuts will come from the hide of the Southern and Californian corporate farmers.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

Yes, but is that what Bush is proposing?

Thats my point vague news articles induce an uproar and dont explain all the facts. If you read this article thats what you get. To me thats what he is saying.

It's a terrible indictment on Apolyton's right wing posters that decent left wing posters like Provost Harrison have had to resort to charitable self pwnings to keep the right's score above zero.

I salute the generous egalitarian spirit of Gertrude.. I mean The Provost.

Gerty was right, apparently Imran and DD needed to read the whole article, especially the part my wife quoted, which I willl do again:

Bush is proposing to withdraw food stamps for certain families already receiving other government assistance. The administration estimates that plan would remove more than 300,000 people from the rolls and save $113 million annually.

While the article may be wrong on that point,Seems PH i s owed an apology.

I'm not a fan of President Bush these days, but I definetly support the plan to have deep cuts in farm subsidies. About time. Don't let the freaking Congressmen stop that!
Bush is reminding me of Reagan in that he's calling for cuts he already knows do not have a snowball's chance in hell of passing just so he can say "well, I tried. Oh, well we'll just have to keep spending".

This is all a game to pass the blame to someone else then at the end of the day they all just keep spending any way. It kind of reminds me of another game politicans play; the house passes a bill (which everyone really opposes but which is popular with voters) then the Senate passes a totally different bill on the same topic. The two bills are so different and so ammended you have to send it back to committee where, of course, it dies a quiet death. The result? The politicians get to say they support the legislation but get to make sure nothing is passed and the moneyed interests are protected.

I was under the impression that most of the corporate farms were in the midwest.
