So basicly hispanics are the only ones against it... I don't see how a non-foreign (sp?) in America can be against it

Bull****! A good parent teaches her children basic skills necessary to get by - such as English.
Um... can't they learn English in, I dunno, SCHOOL?!

That would be "too late"... making them learn english now makes it easier to learn other things at school. If you start going to some english school without understanding english at all you will quickly get far behind the others in class

So it's already behind how many years? If you move to a country learn the local language, dammit!

Most kids don't. Why would they?

I guess that's news to plenty of good students who had parents who hardly speak any English.

Of course it's still possible to learn english from friends etc, but that's not always the case... I have heard about people who only talked with family members until when they where old enough to go to school, which would be like if the person just moved to the country

Of course they can still manage it (I know many who did), but I also know that their first years was more diffecult than it would have been if the teachers was actually able to communicate with the kid

Well if the parent is skipping immunization shots she can hardly be described as mother of the year material Imran.

But I don't see why this should only be about parents... all people should be able to communicate in the local language!

I think we need to make English the national language, and require English profiency tests to those seeking to emigrate to the US.

But it isn't because she can't speak English. Btw, the critics are right... this is blatently unconstitutional.

AFAIK they "have" such tests for those foreign students who wish to study in DK, but apparently it doesn't work at all, since none* of the foreign students at my last school understands english

Famous quote from one of the students:

                          What is 'House'?

*Ok, admitted, ONE of them was able to speak english... that is one out of ~25

Yep. This is a stupid ruling that deserves to get overturned.

Some people just aren't very good with languages. Learning a new one as an adult certainly isn't trivial.

There is this thing called freedom of speech, it allows you to speak whatever language you want in your home.
