I'd move there. The mountains in Arizona are very nice.

Yeah, the housing selection is a little stark if not retro... however, 275 is much better looking than 500

I had to explain that to the person who interviewed me.

Plus if I remember the house you bought in SF bay area was much smaller, older, and in need of a few repairs where as these seem to be a buyers market instead of a sellers market. Say good bye to 15% annual appreciation but say hello to half acre lots and twice the living space.

Oerdin: The guy that interviewed me told me that housing in that area wasn't as good as I might thing. That a 3 bed 2 bath place of 1700 sq ft goes for about 275k. I told him that my fixer upper in a not so nice neighberhood, 1400 sq ft, 2 bed, 1 bath goes for 550k... He apologized for making asumptions about the cost of living in the bay area.

I think I can walk away with about 50k from this house and make a nice down over there.

yeah, normally those prices would be high. They are even a little higher than Vegas. But compared to where you live, not so bad.

Flagstaff is the only town in Arizona that I've been to that I'd consider living in.

And some of you pusses think it's too cold? Well you can always drive 15 minutes to the valley and roast to your heart's content.

Maybe you should consider building a house if the prices are reasonable but the existing stock leaves something to be desired. You could rent a place temporarily and design a nice new place for your new family. You seem to have experience doing renos, so maybe it would be up your alley.

                            Just a thought.

I have been kicking that around Kontiki. I am going to try and put off buying another house for 6 mos to a year, then see how much money we have, what the market is like, if we like the area, etc... And then decided, but building is a definite option.
