Nice to see Old Eurocom Xenophobia is alive and well in this thread

You have more to gain by letting the Turks in then by shutting them out you bunch of rascists.

Mad props to the progressive minded Eurocoms though.

Occupation in Cyprus, killing and persecution of the Greeks, Armenians, Nestorians and Kurds. Converting Asia Minor to islam, destrying the byzantine and hellenic heritage, even raping the city names like Ephesos and Constantinople with barbaric Efes ans Istanbul.

Finland needs to be kicked out of the EU for allying with the Nazis.

And it certainly didn't happen in Finland. There were never any Baltic Crusades or anything like that...

what's progressive in letting retards in?

I don't think that europe has got everything right, but letting turkey in certainly won't fix it.

Btw, I don't think they even should let us in. ( not that they would)

Fine, but the EU is dropping the ball due to its own arrogance and xenophobia. They are totally missing out on a resource that could totally build legitimate relationships into places they wouldn't have previous access to.

                Ted Striker's new NAFTA:

                USA
                Canada
                Mexico
                Turkey

It's not so much them letting them in or not but the silly reactions that come from some of the scared Euros when the topic is brought up.

What do YOU have against Turkey anyway?

Here is one of Ted's standard pictures of a hot Turkish girl to help convince Euros to let the Turks in.

They have a very large number of deeply religious zealots who are shauvenistic in their lives and worldviews, and the number doesn't seem to be diminishing. I have plenty of those in my country as well, muslim, jewish and some christians, as well, so I know very well how dangerous they are.

Wow Bebro, where did you find this piece of news? I had to search for some time at Turkish newspapers to find what's really going on, and finally Google revealed this actually happened in early february.

Apparently, none of the religious implications that might come to mind are related, it's simply a case of bad taste in the service of narrow commercial thinking.

The town in which this happened is near Antalya, called Kale (pr. Kahl-leh), and the region is not really known for its pious credentials in the first place.

Anyway, the Town Council there, which is from a center right party (DYP), decided to replace the old statue with a new one which more looks like the Coca-Cola Santa, in response to complaints from tourism agencies and citizens that it's unrecognizable and therefore confusing for the tourists.

Thus the council thought the change would make the figure more recognisable, bringing the statue up to date with the universally known image. The Mayor remarked they suggest the old statue be placed at the Church of Saint Nicholas in Demre...

I looked for images and could only come up with these small photos, which still give enough of a rough idea. Here is the old statue:
