BTW, isn't it true that the only country that actually met the criteria in this round of accession was Malta? I haven't heard anything about it, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was true. The EU was underwhelmed by the performance of the new members (especially the performance of some members regarding their ethnical minorities). That's why the new membership bargainings now have a disclaimer "the bargainings may end up with your country not joining the EU".Originally posted by Wycoff

I've said this before and while most people probably dont care about my opinion I will say it again anyway. If Israel, Tunisia, Lebanon, Armenia, Georgia or even Libya meet the criteria I would like to see them in EU,but not Turkey. Converting Asia Minor to islam, destrying the byzantine and hellenic heritage, even raping the city names like Ephesos and Constantinople with barbaric Efes ans Istanbul. Disgusting respect for the right-wing, nationalistic, military dictator and creation of the modern Turkish semi-military dictatorship. The nation that gave us the Kebab.
