Picard grew on me. He's a pretty good actor. But he seemed kind of old for a captain to me.

I'm all for longevity, but when a show concept is so bereft of ideas that it descends into the crap that was Enterprise, it needs at least a rest, if not euthanasia. Churning out crap under a series name defames even the good parts of the series (Star Wars, anyone?).
There's a lot to be said for going out on a high note and leaving people with the fond memories of a great show rather than dragging a show out until it's unbearable. Some ideas just run their course and that's that.
My point is that Star Trek can be sustained over a long period, without resorting to plots that force writers into creative dead ends. As already mentioned, there is a ton of drama that could be drawn from Human/Vulcan/Klingon relations, or just the mechanics of the Federation, and watching it form.
It seems to me that the producers of Enterprise, with poor ratings evident, got desperate and attempted to appeal to a young fan base. As a result, the more mature viewers were lost.Voluntary Human Extinction Movement http://www.vhemt.org/

Ahhhh, the pain is subsiding at last. I had hopes when it was announced. I didn't think it could be worse than Voyager, but I was wrong.

Had they cancelled it after season 2, I could've accepted that. But season 3 was quite nice and season 4 very good... certainly better than 95% of other TV shows.

I cant say that I liked or disliked the series. I never found it compelling enough to watch more than some shows when it first started and a few later shows if I was flipping channels and nothing else was on.We need seperate human-only games for MP/PBEM that dont include the over-simplifications required to have a good AI

If Enterprise couldn't survive on its own (despite being of excellent quality in the last 1-2 seasons), who on earth would want to invest the millions of dollars required to set up a new show?
As I see it, the only hope for those craving for more Trek would be movies, though the last few didn't exactly do stellar at the box office (and the TNG crew is growing tired of them), so I wouldn't have too much faith in those either...

BASTARDS .....no wait. I don´t actually care. Star Trek has gone steadily downhill since TNG. DS 9 was watchable and at times even quite enjoyable. But Voyager? Please... Been there, done that. Get some new ideas, guys it was therefore quite refreshing to watch the first season of Enterprise. The Temporal Cold war was a story arch with potential, but since I haven´t watched past season I I can´t say how it evolved. But if it follows earlier Star Trek story archs it will probably be stretched beyond the rim of the known universe and as usual leave the viewer unsatisfied. And don´t get me started on the joke Star Trek writers call character development ...I love being beaten by women - Lorizael

Voyager was often boring IMO due to the fact that the "lots of good starfleet guys flying around somewhere" idea did run out of steam. It was a step back compared to DS9 which had much more realistic characters. However, Enterprise was much more promising than Voyager from the start and in the last time it was clearly better.
I also think many people are somehow "unfair" (well I don't mean it as a complaint, just as an observation) to Enterprise, because I think the better ST series needed some time to become really great. IMO TNG and DS9 weren't that good from the start either....Blah

This is news? I thought that it had been settled last year. In fact UPN plans to wait several years before trying another Star Trek series. They feel that their failure was due to oversaturation.
Personally I think that DS-9 was the best of the Star Trek series. It had the best plot line and the best characters. Particularily unique for the Star Trek genre was the fact that the "bad guys" were named individuals: Dukat, Kai Gwynn, Wayune the Horta, and the Founder he served. They appeared frequently enough that they were able to develop characters instead of being virtually nameless space monsters.
Here's a trekkie question for you: If you were going to have one person devote his or her life to you like you were a god who would it be: the unflinching toady Wayune or the relentlessly ruthless Kai Wynne?"I say shoot'em all and let God sort it out in the end!
