      Author :

My fathers mother (damn you yanks/brits for not having an appropriate word for that ) had a small library of books back from the 30'es including several of this guys books (not to mention Jules Verne etc) so since my fourht year I have chewed on those - I guess that todays youth will find them funny, but despite their, well, romantic approach they are pretty rough with hangings and killings in detail.
With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.

      • My favourites:

        Band of Brothers (top-nominee)
        Platoon
        A Bridge Too Far
        Black Hawk Down
        Das Boot
Full Metal Jacket (though the second half isn't always very logical)
Saving Private Ryan (the first half, it really goes downhill half-way the movie)
        Paths of Glory

and that is all I have to say, about that.
Today, you are the waves of the Pacific, pushing ever eastward. You are the sequoias rising from the Sierra Nevada, defiant and enduring.

I don't think that quality films like Kurosawas are allowed in this thread.

                • The Thin Red Line was a pretty good war movie. Directed by Terrence Mallick, one of my favorite director.

But I also know that Mallick style is something that you could easily dislike; but if you like Mallick director style; you are ready for a great and unforgettable cinematic experience with this movie.

Apocalypse Now is also one of the greatest war movie!

                  • Thin Red Line was pompous, pretentious, overbearing, sentimental, incoherent and a waste of some of the best acting talent around.

In Harms Way by Otto Preminger?

QFT, but that was such a heartbreaking movie... especially the part were the two wives were going around delivering telegrams to women whose husbands had been killed.
