It was a forgotten part of our history until Russia itself recalled it.

Also, I'd like to inform You that only thanks to a Polish euro-parliamentarist, Soviet war prisoners were mentioned in EU's statesment memorating Auschwitz liberation.

And as for the 'Christian' part, here too we are more Christian than the West, which practices a strange and utterly wrong version of Christianity.
Well, I live in the probably least Christian Western country. Your faith isn't scoring any points with us.
Why can't you be a non-conformist just like everybody else?

Why should it be forgotten? For Russia, that was the culmination of a prolonged period of turmoil, the so called "time of troubles". Never in its history was Russia so close to a total collapse as in 1612, (perhaps, with the exception of 1941-1942). It is remarkable that it was people's army that liberated Moscow from the Poles and thus ended the time of troubles. It is remarkable as well that the Muslims of Russia also massively volunteered into that army. So it's a good occasion for a national holiday.

                  Thanks.

On the other hand, many of the distinguished speakers in Krakow even failed to mention which army liberated it.

                              Bullsh!t. Siberia is in Europe.
If otherwise, how the hell can you explain the fact, that a hockey club from Omsk city which is located in the middle of Siberia is the winner of European Champions Cup 2005 tournament?

I don't hate Russian. I hate some bad aspects of Russian tradition, though... Imperialism for instance.
Take some Serb's claims... Like that Stalin was great,
Soviet Union was perfectly right to inva... sorry, take care of Lvov and Vilnius in 1939, and Poland is repsonsible for both Muenchen and ww2...
And still, You're cheering at his welcome.

Because in Poland, under communism, it was not well seen to remind any hostility between our two nations?

Russia was not even near to collapse back then.
Poland didn't want to destroy Russia - have an union with it perhaps, at least force it being allied with itself against Sweden, liberate Smolensk - all that yes, but not destroy Russian state as such.

On the other hand, many of the distinguished speakers in Krakow even failed to mention which army liberated it.
If there'll be ceremonies in Katyn forest,
do You expect Polish or Russian president to thank nazi Germany for revealing this case?
Soviet regime was at that time evil itself, though not as much as III Reich perhaps. When Auschwitz was being liberated, thousands were dieing in Soviet camps. And Soviet soldiers were not only liberators from nazi rule - for which they should be thanked - but also conquerors.
Having all that said I don't agree with lack of mentioning of USSR's role. As far as I'm concerned, obviously they should've mentioned who's liberated Auschwitz, invite combatants who did that (if there are any still alive - but surely there are, and it's an outrage if they were not summoned), and all that usual stuff.
