Yes, but dome teams are a minority.

If you haven't watched the actual Superbowl in the last 5 years, you've missed out on some great games (2000 - Rams stop the Titans on the one foot line to win, 2001 - Vinateri kicks the Pats to their first SB win in the final seconds over the Rams, 2004 - NE wins a 2nd half shootout over the Panthers).

A predetermined site makes it easier for people to make reservations in advance. A super bowl can stress accomodations so it's nice to know in advance. And a neutral site is probably best so no team has that big of an advantage.

I also think it would be good if cold weather outdoor sites weren't automatically eliminated from the selection process. I like watching games where it's not 70 degrees and sunny. Why should it be different than most of the regular season games? But I do understand travelling logistics. For most games, the fans live reasonably close so getting to the game in bad weather is possible. But trying to fly in, as most people do for the super bowl, could be easily a problem if the weather turns bad.

And for some sites, the surrounding infrastructure may not be in place to handle the crowds and the air travel. (Green Bay)

But I'd love to see a super bowl in COLD CHICAGO weather.

the great thing about the first NE win was they made John Madden look stupid (or stupider ). I never liked Madden. Near the end of the game Madden suggested they should just run the clock out and play for overtime. Wrong answer. NE intead drove the ball down the field and won the game in regulation with a Vinatieri field goal.

Conservative play does not win playoff games. As the Jets and Chargers found out recently.

                  get this:

The NFL now says casinos can't use the words superbowl on their marquees. And they can't broadcast the game on tv's larger than 42", can can only use 1 tv.

I can accept the "Superbowl" thing, but the TV regulation just seems wrong and illegal.

Agreed, pchang, and that brings up the question of what recourse the NFL plans to take if casinos show the game on multiple TV's. Seems to me that if you get all that money for your event to be broadcast free to the viewer, you take your chances on something like that.

actually I'm not clear on that tv requirement. I think they can have it on multiple tv's if it is not greater than 42". But only 1 tv is it is greater than 42". something weird like that.

I think the cold weather games suck, especially in the playoffs. Gameplay suffers and the team that is used to the cold usually wins.

Well, that's a little more reasonable, but I still wonder what the NFL plans to do if someone shows it on, say, two 60" screens.

that issue is more about money, than about gambling.

But the NFL in general doesn't like to be associated with my city for moral reasons.

But the superbowl parties have become big, big moneymakers for casinos lately. I think they want a cut of the action.
