    • Fine. Please make sure the stat blocks are up first, as they are needed most for orders... I will be offline for the entire next week, starting Sunday morning CET.

Duke Heinrich of Saxony to King Conrad of Germany
      Greetings, my liege!
The emperor sure knows when to come knocking on the door... But he surely acts upon divine guidance and best judgement...
As for the troops, you may of course get them back under your command. Maybe in the future we can work out something to make up for the inconveniance my men had in "convincing" yours of the true nature of loyality...
Until then, I am at your service.
      My king...

Duke Heinrich of Saxony to Freiherr Heidolf von Dortmund
Lord von Dortmund, you may now return the "captured" levy to the King´s command. Good luck with the siege!

        • Franconia

Wildgraf Merobaud von der Thüringerwald - Age 38
A well known commander in Franconia, this noble from the dark forests of Franconian Thuringia is noted for his achievements on the field of battle – men will acknowledge his skill, bravery, and charisma readily when asked. Perhaps he is no latter-day Pompey, but his prowess is something that would make any commander on the field think twice. He appears to be suitably loyal; no incidents that would infer otherwise stand out (he has remained aloof from the group of Franconian-Thuringian nobles allied to von Mellrichstadt).

Vizegraf Teutomar von Würzburg - Age 30
A younger son in his family, this man nevertheless managed to take control of the family lands after the unfortunate death of his older brother while on campaign against the Magyars. He is known locally as “der Erbauer” (the Architect) for his extensive program of public building – he has constructed churches, local roads, and bridges that rank among the most sophisticated in Germany. His engineering expertise is encouraging, though his skills as a general are somewhat mediocre.

Landgraf Raganald von Hesse - Age 51
An older noble, this man has quite a past – raised as a pagan among the fierce Varangian Rus, this man participated in a raid against Constantinople, was captured, and became a member of the Byzantine Army. There, he converted to Christianity and served against the Arabs in Syria until he discovered that a relation of his had converted long ago and gained noble rank in Franconia, and had just died. Retiring and departing northward to claim his rightful title, this man’s loyalty is anyone’s guess – he has simply not been around long. He is believed to be a decent commander and is famed in Greek circles for his bravery and mastery of siege warfare; he is a literate man who can converse in Greek and Latin, though because his command of German is a bit less than perfect he does not yet enjoy great popularity from his people, who still think of him as a foreigner.

          • Geffrey d'Evreux to Duke Arnulf

I will be taking 800 men to Regensburg, and leaving behind a garrison of 130 men at Vienna. The levies are all quite well equipped, owing to the loss of much of the rebels' equipment. As far as archers, I have left most bows with the garrison, though my group has 80 of the foreign horn-bows with us.

I do not anticipate any foreign activity in Carinthia, as we have seen no sign of the Magyars, but should they return I believe that the garrison I have left is at least capable of keeping any raiding parties from taking the town.

I have 265 prisoners at this point: 30 Knights, 45 Sergeants, and 190 of the Italian mercenaries that surrendered to me. The chivalry are all Carinthians that were fighting with Luitpold. I do not think it is a good idea to leave them with a guard of only 130 levy troops in Vienna. What are your instructions as to what to do with these men?

            • ooh good generals. Could I eventually call all of them up over the course of several turns, or do they become 'not interested/available' after the initial call up?

You can ask me to reserve one or more of them for the next callup; you can pick one, ask the other two to be reserved, and the next time you call up you will be presented with the two reserved ones plus a new one.

Of course, they do get older!

                  • So, Cyc, do I currently have an income, or does that go nowhere because of the rebellion? And I can spend that 725 d. in my treasury, right?

I understand why all my resource info is gone from the stat block, but can I see a breakdown of what my forces look like at the moment?

Duke Arnulf to Geffery d' Evreux
I want you to send 200 archers with Magyar bows to me in Regensburg, and keep the rest of your forces in Carinthia. I also wish you to stay in Carinthia- I'll be sending my brother Eberhard to take charge of some of your army, and the two of you will protect Carinthia. The siege in Regensburg is well in hand, I believe, and I suspect a Magyar invasion coming, and even if the Magyars do not invade, there is much work to be done repacifying the countryside so that my brother Eberhard can begin making Carinthia as productive as the Stem Duchies. Your first mission, if the Magyars do not attack, is to reclaim the iron mines and get them producing at full capacity again.

Strip the Italian mercanaries of any arms and armor, and send them back to Italy. Strip the captured knights and sergeants of their ranks and estates (and take care that none escape with any money or weapons). Release them as peasants. When Eberhard arrives, he will give those estates to Germans and Normans who distinguish themselves in battle and are likely to be loyal to he and I.

three. Christopher Robin, you have the bridge."

Correct, you have no income, but the money listed as yours can be spent. I'll try to put some force numbers up for you later; I'm a bit busy today.

                      • Ok, so orders:

300 d. to my soldiers. I realize they are owed more pay than that, but they should understand that this is a good-faith payment, and I'll be giving them more backpay once I regain my seat as Duke. Plus, I really need loyalty.

150 d. to Eberhard. This is not for his personal use, but for him to use for whatever is nessecary to pacify Carinthia.

Send Eberhard to Carinthia to begin the process of retaking Carinthia. Eberhard will be working with Geffery of Evreux, but Eberhard will be the superior in the situation. Send 200 of Evreux's archers with Magyar bows to Regensburg, and keep the rest of the forces in Carinthia to help defend from any Magyar invasions and to regain control of the iron mines.

Continue the siege of Regensburg. Extra emphasis should be placed of finishing "der Strafer" and attacking the walls of Regensburg. Quit throwing disgusting stuff in the river. Last turn's tactical orders regarding the siege still hold, except where mentioned above and any notes in military order PMs.

Call up 3 new generals. One of them should be a Norman who shows good loyalty. The other two should be loyal Germans who have lately distinguished themselves in battle. All should be excellent tacticians, but I'm less worried about siege capabilities.

Get my brother Eberhard confirmed as Markgraf of Carinthia as quickly as possible, and have him get started replacing nobility. I want to be as firmly entrenched in the minds of my peasants and nobility as possible when Berengar reaches Carinthia.

                        More to come.

As d'Evreux informed you earlier, he has only 80 such bows. Any additional archers you ask for will not have Magyar bows, just regular bows.

                          • Duke Arnulf of Bavaria to Emperor Berengar I
I must protest at the suggestion of your taking control of Carinthia, lands rightfully taken and converted to Christianity by my family. I would appreciate help in defending these lands from the Magyars, and I accept your need to remove bandits like Luitpold from your borders, but there is no cause for your annexation of my lands.

                            • Emperor Berengar I to Duke Arnulf of Bavaria
Truly, the weight of leadership weighs heavily on the shoulders of His Imperial Majesty. It is with unfortunate regret that he is forced to thusly impugn your sovereignty; while he respects your ancestral claims, he must place the good of Christendom ahead of your petty tribal grunting over land and heritage. He reminds you that the interests of Carinthia and Christendom are best served by your full cooperation in this matter.

The Emperor also wishes to remind the noble Duke Arnulf that it was not long ago that the dear Duke was a rather unpopular person in God's holy church, and that it might not take much persuasion at all to convince certain authorities that his capitulation to the church was not entirely genuine.

I think we can capture Regensburg this turn, and the advantages to doing so are obvious.
