Sign me up for Virginia. Also, Sheep, could you just put the colour of the nation on the stats to make it easier to see who is who? Thanks.

Orders: Campain heavily for the Democratic-Republicans. Also talk to Jefferson about the possibility of me being his running mate.
Spend $5000 on soldiers. $2000 Start making some industrial movement at a VERY SLOW PACE at the north-western area of Virginia. However, in all other areas, encourage people to set up farms, and sell tobacco and cotton. Spend $4000 on educating the people of Virginia. $5000 on transportation, the main focus is to create roads to other states. $6000 on setting up a large police network. And $5000 on making it much easier to move into Virginia, and on advertising Virginia as a great place to live.

OOC: No story this time, too busy.

      The Delaware Herald

An independent governor for an independent nation
In an unexpected twist of fate the Independent candidate, Dover native Bruce Magnus, (would you believe I got this name out of Gamecube64?) has won the election for governor by a good margin, nearly 30% above both the Democratic-Republican and the Federalists party.

New budget allows for great economic expansion
As his first act governor Magnus has changed the budget, with 4k for transportation, 2k for Industry, 1k for internal security, and 1k for education. This will hopefully allow Delaware to produce more exports, thus increasing the wealth of all her working residents.

            Delaware endorses William Alexander.

Bruce Magnus is quoted as saying: "A nation leaning too heavily toward power of state or power of a country is bound to fail. With too much power of central government what have we but a monarchy with multiple kings, and with too little we are nothing but a loose federation with no real ties or order. This is why I endorse William Alexander for President."

              The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania

              The Budget

              Armed forces: $2000. [2000 Regulars]
Education: $3000. [a university and libraries]
Transportation: $5000. [Extension of roads out to the borders of Ohio
              Internal Security: $2000. [City constables]
Industry: $4000. [Coal mines and an iron plant]
              Project: $1000. [Western Settlement funds]

A standing army of 2000 regulars has been commissioned. They have been trained in basic marching, making camp, formations and maneuvering, and signals and firing. The regiments have adequate supplies of munitions, weapons, carts, and pack animals, but there is a shortage of experienced officers and cannon. Still, the governor approves of the legislature’s creation of the force, and is confident they will help greatly in insuring order and defense of the Commonwealth. The troops will be stationed in the extreme west of the state, to protect travelers, traders, and settlers.

Grants have been made available to municipal sectors, which, combined with donations from generous individuals, will finance the construction of a school of higher learning and several libraries.

Roads are being extended the length of the state to the west, to better facilitate the movement of goods and people to the fertile lands to the west. Parallel to this, the Pennsylvania legislature has authorized land grants in the Ohio region to citizens. Monies have been made available to police and administer settlements in adjacent regions, and the legislature is scheduled to review an extension of the borders to accommodate the inclusion of these settlements.

More police patrol Pennsylvania’s largest cities and their near adjacent rural areas.

Interest free loans have been provided to several firms for the development of various industrial efforts, mines, and metal plants.

              The Election

The Pennsylvanian Electors have indicated their intention to vote for Thomas Jefferson.
Those walls are absent of glory as they always have been. The people of tents will inherit this land.

An open letter to the governors

My fellow countrymen, I am William Alexander and I would like the honor of serving you as president.

I urge you to defeat the dangerous precedent of allowing a president and vice president with the narrow vision of only one state. This gives Virginia too loud a voice in a government that is meant to speak for us all.

As your president I will let you live as freemen, unfettered by a meddling bureaucracy that is deaf to your needs but quick with a tax. I ask only that we stand together as brothers in the mutual defense of our new nation.

                Thank you,

                William Alexander

If anything, your attacks are totally meaningless. John Adams would be the supporter of the most bureaucracy, and you at a close second. The Democratic-Republicans are the opposite of bureaucracy.

We need someone who is strong as and intelligent as a president, not someone like you, William Alexander, who is wishy washy, and only stands on the ever changing middle ground.

My appologies to the vice presidential hopeful for upsetting him. My position is firm and yours is unelaborated. Do you speek now for Mr. Jefferson? Your position appears to offer no beuracracy, I can only hope that does not mean no government.

Bureaucracy does not mean government, but none elected officials. How is your position firm at all? All your position is, is the middle ground of the two main political parties.

That is correct sir. The middle ground between two unacceptable extremes.

We do not need the strong federal goverment proposed by Mr Adams. I beleive the people and their state representatives know best where and how to spend their money.

Mr Jeffersons position does not allow enough unified strength to deal effectivly with foreign monarchies.

I would build a federal army for the protection of our homes and families, but without taxes. This force can be built and maintained with federal revenue.

Except Mr. Jeffersons position does. Foreign policy, foreign ministers, and ambassadors could easily be elected, and decided through Congress.

I'm sure that Mr. Jefferson, or anyone else for that matter, could talk to all sorts of people and decide things latter on when they find a bit of time.

I for one am ready and anxoius to get started right away and work just as hard as the people of these 14 states have to work every day.

OOC: If the real US constitution is any indication, the candidate with a majority of electoral votes becomes president, and the candidate with the next most electoral votes becomes vice-president, even if from another party. Presidential and Vice-Presidential candidates did not run on the same ticket until after 1804, when the 12th Amendment changed that aspect of electoral law to its present form.

Well, I will propose a bill, that makes the president and vice-president run on the same ticket, instead of the former system.
