Military 4K (10 frigates + 3000 soldiers)

The navy will patrol the coast for pirates with 4 frigates. New York Harbor is their main focus but with permission they will patrol the entire east coast. 4 frigates will harass the pirate bases in the Caribbean, and earn Spain’s gratitude. 2 frigates will make friendly visits to European ports where the crews will be encouraged to carouse with the locals and brag about all the jobs and opportunity available for immigrants to New York.

The army will build some fortifications on the frontier between Buffalo and Niagara. This shouldn’t bother the British as they are defensive, and they will double as trade posts to foster good relations with the natives. The main job for right now though will be surveying and mapping of the territory of New York. 2 companies are offered to Georgia to help stabilize their frontier.

The survey work will set the stage for our Erie Canal Project. The canal will connect all the rivers and lakes between Albany and Buffalo and make one continuos waterway 365 miles long. It will open most of the state to swift,cheep travel.

The Albany Military Academy will produce officers and gunners, but most of its curriculum is engineering.

Industry spending will be used to encourage manufacturing, mostly textiles, farm implements and rifles.

Like you, I took the words of Mr. Adams in the Declaration of Independence seriously. I fought for liberty from the tyranny of King George. While we were in harms way Mr. Adams was enjoying balls and state diners in the court of King Louis XVI of France. His support for a strong, centralized government, despite the fact that it is contrary to the spirit of his own declaration, betrays how well he liked the life of royalty. He would have the states surrender their sovereignty to his federal government and be king in all but name. Is this why we fought for six years? Is this what so many of our fathers and brothers gave their lives for?

Mr. Jefferson with his ideal of the self-sufficient farmer is more reasonable, and if we lived in a perfect world he would have my vote. The sad fact that our war of independence makes clear is that the world is not a perfect place. Spain, France and England beset us on every border. These are the most powerful nations on earth and Mr. Jefferson’s self sufficient farmer cannot defend his farm or family against such opponents. Should we now forget the brotherhood that was forged in the fire of revolution? Should we simple hope that the nations now dividing up the entire world would simply leave us in peace?

It is the job of the federal government to provide security for all the citizens of these states. I envision a federal government that can accomplish this vital duty without infringing your freedom or livelihood, because this force will be financed with revenue, not taxes. Let a strong, united federal army preserve the peace and let the government leave its citizens to enjoy that peace.
