      • Uh oh.

Thigns get very interesting as units of the 7th Armoured making a breakout attempt South of St Vith. This is dangerous, as my top shelf fighting units are far to the west, having left St. Vith to starve out. Fortunately the Führer Bglt. Brigade, and the 246th Volksgrenadier Division have just arrived at Dasburg and have orders to seal any breakthroughs.

          Operation Herbstnebel

After Action Report for fighting between 12/16/44 -12/19/44 Ardennes, Belgium. Commanding officer: Field Marshal Klesh.

The attack achieved complete sucess, even moreso that we could've imagined. The Americans were caught completely off guard, surrounded where they defended, and bypassed when possible. Those who fought it out were cut down. All majour objectives set to be achived in the comming days must be updated, as we've fought far past our own wildest dreams. A list of areas captured, and at what time will now be presented, though it must be noted that the Field Marshal himself personally lost the opening daytime battle logs, as he forgot to save them. In tact is the Order of Battle from 21:00 12/16/44:

          21:00 12/16/44

might actually cause me problems.m Fortunately, Dasburg just recived fresh divisions ;-)

          09:00 12/19/44
          --Flamierge destroyed. Aberloup captured.

          15:00 12/19/44

--Noville captured. Grandmenil bunker found. St Vith breakout chrushed. Night attack on Costhum emptied city after
fierce tank battles all through the area.

          03:00 12/20/44
--Ourtheuville captured. End of turn got the 'Most...civs in the world:' pop up.Also it didnt have the warning to save
for next phase. Ami's counterattacking at Bastogne. Batch file seems to stop working here, so I guess I'm done.
For those unfammiliar with the battles, when a bunker is encountered, the only option is to find another way around. You can see by the detailed map attached exactly how the battle has unfolded. Yellow dots represent cities destroyed during attacks. The SS Panzer units (14) are our strongest element at the moment, and are at the gates of Liege (pink box) as this comunique is written. The entirety of the St. Vith resistance has ended, and we had plans to assault it this morning,

A review of the troops and the remnants on the battlefield allow us to make these statments about losses:
          ______________________________________________

          German Casualties: 85 units.
German (current) fighting strength: 187 units.
          Allied Casualties: 331 units.
Allied (current) fighting strength: 36 units.

It is clear that the weak Allies have been broken Mein General, and with your permission, we can make the Channel coast by New Year's. We request any and all divisions at your disposal!

            • Darth, I have been fidgeting with the 'elevated' terrain. For some reason, I decided to work on it with the winter terrain, even though I dont have any of yours yet. I made a quick mock up. It is a rendition of Nemo's 'Cliffs' from Blitz. I have given them a winter top and trees, but the sides are still 'sand' colour... still playing. It looks really nice in some spots and not so hot in others. One might be able to edit the elevated terrain pattern ingame to suit these gfx, if this eventually works out and they look tasty enough to bother. From what I've seen in pics and read, the high grounds were like ridges and as you've named them 'elevated' sections. I think this graphic might fit the terrain type better than the existing, or eventually will.

Also, do we know how deep the snow ended up being? The effect you see here in the fields is nice because it simulates a light to moderate snowfall pretty well. I added it as well as the trees to the top of the 'ridge' to draw a distiction between the two. The snow makes alot look the same.

              Thoughts?

                • Theres two things I notice need to be done:

                  1) Bastogne needs to be beefed up or the advance to Bastogne needs to be slowed before anything gets there so the 101st can deploy. You shouldn't be to Longvilly until about the end of the 18th.

                  2) The northern route needs to be checked, specifically around Stoumont.

As far as historically goes, that's not too far off but I think we can slow it a bit.

At least St. Vith hung in there

                      • Here Darth.

I found the road breaks where cities get destroyed to be very effetive at slowing me down. Alas, it seems the AI doesnt like to defend size 1+2 cities with more than one or two infantry.

Here is a graphic I made this morning. It is a roadblock. I made it to fit within a terrain square, so you can use it for just a graphic nicety where more roads get blown, or have it as a very tough unit that will eat up the green out of you Tiger II's. Or maybe make it indestructable to allow certain paths to key cities to open up at particular historical times. I think it looks pretty good, at least in my winter mock-up.
