  • Spell descriptions... I wonder how I managed to complete BG1 back in the day. I never bothered with the spell descriptions, so I just cast the ones with the most appropriate names for the situation. Magic Missile was naturally a huge favourite, but unlike now I was completely ignorant when it came to armour classes, thac0, saving throws, hit dice and all the intricacies of the game mechanics. I guess the game just was so simple that equipping new weapons (ahh, the times when a two-handed sword +1 was the greatest thing ever) and clicking the enemies was enough.

Besides, you can get the manuals off of Interplay's website too. The registration needed appears to be free.
Cake and grief counseling will be available at the conclusion of the test. Thank you for helping us help you help us all!

    • But I want a book! Not some dumb downloaded files, which are probably the same .pdf that I've already got.
Young folk today don't appreciate the wonder of a book any more.

Minsc has got a +2 longsword at the moment, and my character has a +1 bow and +2 arrows, and a +1 longsword in case the baddies ever get too close.

I'm registered on Interplay for ages and it never cost me one cent. Nice site, good forums, useful downloads.

I've already got the BGII manual (and the Icewind Dale manual), because I got BGI in the DVD case and it has the manuals all on .pdf files. But that's rubbish to read, and I'm not going to print them out. Work might notice, which would be far from ideal, and my girlfriend would object to my using all her ink cartridge for the fancy artwork graphics.

Have you considered buying a new ink cartridge for your GF? Think of how romantic that could be

            • I never had the rule book for BG2 for ages.

It was only recently I discovered I had the pdf file on in my file directory for BG2

For spell descriptions I read the in game ones. Those are probably more accurate. As manuals sometimes can be inaccurrate. I think if you right click the spell book entry you get a more detailed decription.

              • What do you read in bed then Diss? I have a nice stack of IE game manuals to memorise with repeated rereadings.

                • I don't read in bed. I play until the wee hours and then collapse - no time or chance to read anything.

I do read manuals (I even had a thread on it). I just don't have the BG2 manual. Mainly because they are my brother's cd's. He still has the manual over at his house.

I do have the Throne of Bhaal manual though.

But I don't read in bed. I usually read in the living room.

                      • I have a little pile of manuals by the bed. I normally read for 15 minutes in the morning while Mrs J is having her shower. Either a manual, or some Wittgenstein, or look at the cracks in the ceiling again.

Same here, or at least used to be same here. These days I have slightly different priorities, but there is always some time left for gaming.
