  • why i love the bargain bin.

    Last 5 months i've bought:

Sid Meiers Civil War collection (SMG + SMA)
    1602 AD
    SMAC

Total expenditure - $30 US. For less than the cost of one new game I got 4 games (Im buying games practically at the pace of a "hardcore gamer"). And I knew going in they'd be great games, since theyve been played, reviewed, etc for years. Loads of gameplay on all of them. And all were "new" games - no pirating, no abandonware, not even any used games. So Im still encouraging the making of good games.

And I can defer the purchase of a new PC.

Aye, some of my best purchases were made from a bargain bin. Half-Life, Deus Ex, HOMM I, II, and III, Homeworld...

Long live the bargain bin. I bought Deus Ex, Gabriel Knight 3, Grim Fandango and Europa Universalis all from a bargain bin.
I watched you fall. I think I pushed.

I got burned a time or two but who can complain about a five dollar game? Shoot the time it took to install paid it off. I just keep combing for the classics.

curious - what game did you got burned on? I had two games that wouldnt load (one was AOK - MS copyprotect incompatible with my CD drive - grrrr!) but they were both from EB, so i returned them for credits.

Unfortunately, we don't have bargain bins here.

I totally agree with the lord of the mark.

Some of the games I've picked up:

Shogun - Total War. I've just started playing it, feels good! No manual, though...

Civ 2. Bundled with Command and Conquer Red Alert, which I never even installed (should I?). Civ 2 was the deal I wanted...

              Grim Fandango. Excellent game!

              Homeworld Cataclysm. Ditto.

              The Lighthouse, Myst and Riven.

              There are more...

Myst is on my list also Baldurs Gate. (to get beyond strategy games)

Id like Shogun, but it would stretch my 48MB RAM dinosaur computer (and im not upgrading it to 64 given that i hope to get a new one in a few months)

                  HOMM I, II, and III,
                  Millennium Heroes Patch, Loinburger?

Now that is a fun package!

I will say whiplash, a very fun racing game, even though I don't like many racing games.
Scouse Git (2) La Fayette Adam Smith Solomwi and Loinburger will not be forgotten.

                      My bargain bin pickups:

Freedom Force, Need for Speed 3: Hot Pursuit, Earth and Beyond, and C&C: Renegades all for $20.

Starcraft and Broodwar, with guides, $20.

                      Moo3: $19.99 (Ebay)

Jack Nicklaus 2000, Planescape: Torment, High Heat Baseball 2000, Might and Magic 8 (I think), for about $20.

                      SimGolf: $15.00 at Wal-Mart

                      Civ3: $70.

                      MAME:

All my Ultimas are at bargain bin prices, as are my Star Commands, X-com, etc. I rarely buy full-priced games anymore - it's just not worth it.

I just got Bg1 from the bargain bin. I also got Planescape: Torment from the bargain bins.

Other good games I saw in the bargain bin (but I got for full price). Fallout 1 and 2.

I saw the cid meier's civil war collection. I was contemplating buying it. Should I?

Those are RTS games aren't they? How hard are they? I'm not good at RTS like command and conquer. I can never keep up with the computer. Are the games beatable and fun?
