I had a driver installed. I tried downloading the latest ones but couldnt only with the keyboard.

check on the side , you should be able to open it , ......
dirt can be a real pain , the smallest thing can stop an USB , fire wire , mouse etc , .....
, maybe you have to update true your comp , like coNpaq , ..... ( oem soft )
maybe the thing is still under warranty ?
by the way , when those microsoft mouse came out there was a help page , ....... try windows "update" , the link is there i believe ( he pages (!) )

I had the same problem with my speakers until I found out one of my cats had chewed on one of the wires, therefore it didn't connect from time to time, nothing a bit of platic tape can't fix though

Just a thought - test it by taking the mouse to another computer and see if it works there. If it doesn't, it's the mouse and not your computer, if it does, then look further with your computer.
Can't tell ya squat about repairing it...other than toss it and replace it.

AFAIK, Intellimouse Explorer uses no batteries.
Hm, maybe you can get an RMA from Microsoft, and have it replaced at another store o_OComment
