It wasn't. Nothing at all like Marlboro. Different taste and much more heavy than Marlboros. Almost got a dizzy head. (and I'm not exactly a novice)

Well, a good chunk of the movie, music and computer gaming software industry is French owned, but few people seem to know that. Ditto the cosmetic industry. Lots of the planes people fly around in are Airbuses (granted, a multi-national consortium). Michelin tires (and their subsidiary BF Goodrich). Motel 6. RCA. Lots more.
