oh and then there's Chicago's core curriculum FROM HELL.
still probably your best bet, despite all the required classes, its a bit silly to choose Tufts just because of the better location.

Well, you did make it to a fine university...

I do hope your tax issue works out. Also, write to the finatial aid office at Temple: it is just a chance but it might work..I got my university to give me a few thousand more in aid by explaining my situation.

I guess you will also have to look into education loans: you state might offer some and of course the Feds offer subsidized loans as well. It is pain to leave school with 20k in debts, but sometimes that is the price one has to pay.

Blah.. they cut the core significantly:

as of right now, you have to take:

2 quarters of calculus (specially a math orioented person), 2 quarters of biology, 2 of physical sciences

3 of Social studies, 2 or 3 of humanities, 1 or 2 of art and music, 2 or 3 of history (they call it civ)

you have to be proficient in one more langauge (pass a test, or take the classes) and you have to pass the physical exams and the swimming exam.

everything else seems fine, except maybe social studies? i certainly hope i never have to take anything like native american women's history *shudders at the thought*

I am bitter against Tufts because they rejected me. Therefore, I advise Chicago, despite it being in Chicago, which is certainly a downside to anything.

Not going to happen. My art class was basic art hisotry, so it was nice and easy. The thing is, the more simple and fun they make it sound, the worse it is. You would not believe the sort of pains people I knew had with a class called "Cut and paste".

Yeah, a 5 on AP Bio will get you out. They do honor a few AP's, basically only the math and science ones.

You get to choose your classes, so you would never be forced to read such things if you don't want to. You will end up reading Socrate's apology and Plato's Republic. there is no way you get out of the UofC without having read both of those. Marx and Smith are also extremely likely. Hobbes, Locke, and Rousseau also are almost totally unavoidable.

I made great use of spellcheckers in college, but I swear my typing spelling is far worse than by hand.

Plato's Republic is one of the most absurd pieces of garbage it has ever been my distinct displeasure not to have been able to avoid reading. The guy's theories have more holes in them than an Iraqi civilian, and they're totalitarian in some of the worst sorts of ways besides. Not to mention the guy kind of stole Socrates and then twisted him around to serve his own pseudo-evil purposes. *doesn't like Plato*

Rousseau's kind of cool though...not his general will stuff, which is just weird, but I like his philosophies on the state of nature and all.

Speer, yes, it's Giant Squid. And how is everyone's favorite person-who-is-not-a-Nazi-but-just holds-Nazi-views-and-has-a-Nazi-name doing? Have people stopped teasing you about that yet?

Though I agree that Plato's reasoning is far away from totally reasonable.
