Good luck finding a job. Should I mention Michael's assistant (read secretary) is actually a technical writer?

i'd rather be a secretary than a waitress at Denny's

well, it's been projected that the hardship in universities is going to last a few years.....*grumbles*

Why not, there are many excellent universities here and they are not in finanical trouble. I know plenty of Americans who have come here; many because their programs are not as good in the US.

                  DM,

If it makes you feel better, I have lots of friends who were graduating in the early 90s when jobs were scarce and decent courses were full. In time, they've mostly wound up doing quite well. Same for those who graduated in 1981, during that recession. Same thing in the 70s... and so on.

My advice: Keep your spirits up, and find a course that gives you something to fall back on, if you can't proceed in your chosen field for a little while. It never hurts to be diversified... and it never hurts to have a skill that the person you're competing with, doesn't.

The reason that the two party system has been so constant in the USA is that when a small party becomes popular, one of the larger parties often adopts the new idea that made them popular and thus edges out the newer party. While that may seem stifling, it actually ensures the constant development and change of parties as new ideas and plans are implemented by the major parties. For example, social security was largely borrowed from small, socialist parties, and it is now strong and mainstream national policy.

Even so, 3rd parties becoming main parties is not unheard of. The republican party itself was a tiny 3rd party, once.

The point is that, while different from european-style democracy, our system is hardly less democratic than yours. It works to represent the votes of the people in a different way. For example, I'm horrified by the european idea that one branch of government (parliament) could be at all beneficial, but I don't reject the fact that it is indeed democratic. You must respect the differences in our system and accept that they work for us.
