  • Still, that's saying that the Soviet regime murdered 40,000,000 of its own people in a span of 20 years. Doesn't anyone else think that this is a Holocaust? Why aren't we told about this nearly as often as the Nazi holocaust? Why are the Germans saddled with seemingly sole responsibility for the crime of large scale extermination of people? Surely the Russian/ Soviet peoples should also feel ashamed of themselves.

    • Remember, many Nazis were appalled by the Soviet atrocities they discovered in Poland. Many Poles welcomed the Nazis as liberators. Some even say that Hitler's "Final Solution" was in part encouraged by the previous actions of Stalin.

Poles? Don't you mean Balts and Ukranians?
I must say I can't see how stalin's actions encouraged the Final Solution. His bout with anti-semitism came after Hitler's.

      • Not Stalin's anti-Semtism, but rather the evidence of his systematic extermination of entire groups of people. There is some evidence that this influenced Hitler's later actions, just as documents show that Hitler was studying Stalin's five-year plans.

        • I don't happen to believe that the Germans should feel ashamed at all. Neither should the Soviets. The majority of both populations were either living under the same threat of execution, or largely unaware of the attrocities until well after the fall of those regimes.

I think Hilter was far more inspired by Ottoman actions in 1915 than anything Stalin did, as far as imagining tha faith of the Jews and other "subhumans".

I agree, but Russians shouldn't hark back to the good old days of Stalin. Germany has come to terms with its recent past better than Russia
Space is big. You just won't believe how vastly, hugely, mind- bogglingly big it is. I mean, you may think it's a long way down the road to the chemist's, but that's just peanuts to space.
