I searched Google News for every recent article on SCUDS. Right up until 20 minutes ago the latest articles are unsure whether these were SCUDS.

Add to that the irrationality of using SCUDS for this purpose and I think more evidence is required.

Anyway, this begs the question as to whether more intrusive inspections would have found them or not.

      Verto :
I supported inspections for the very reason I thought they did work thanks to the pressure of the US/UK army. Sure, Saddam would have never disarmed if this crisis hadn't been put on frontstage by the Bushies. Sure, Saddam would have never cooperated with the inspectors if it wasn't for the fear he had of being overthrown by a clearly superior US/UK army. Saddam would have never destroyed his weapons if he hadn't been caught red-handed by the inspectors.

The very combination of inspectors + military pressure, although, was working. It allowed the conditions under which Saddam had no choice but to cooperate. However, it takes more time for inspectors to uncover these weapons than it will take time to the US troops to invade Iraq. It would also have claimed the lives of far fewer people.
Yesterday I think, Blix was having a speech on the ways the inspections regime could have been strengthened to become more efficient, while saying the old inspection regime had some efficiency and results already.
However, as the inspectors' missions were far from being finished, Saddam sure had some forbidden weapons hidden somewhere. Whether he has chemicals or dirty bombs I don't know. I hope we never know.

In any case if the "Coalition" really cared about preventing the use of WMDs they wouldn't be creating a situation in which their use is much more likely.

How about that film of the marines tearing down saddams picture...

and the Iraqi citizen stepping up to hit the picture with his shoe?

          gotta love that.

right....they would be sitting back and waiting for those same WMD's to be built up and stockpiled to the point where their use would be much more devastating.

Built up, with what? I doubt Iraq has had the resources to make viable WMDs since it can't even get enough spares for its aircraft.

              Your claim is a fantasy.

Yeah I loved the two staged bits of capitulation. But I've noticed that neither Canadian nor US networks are showing the bombed out non-military vehicles and the massacred civilians I saw on the BBC.

tell that to the kurds massacred in hallabja by chemical weapons. He had them then, but i guess we should trust him and think he doesn't have them anymore.

                          Arrgghh!! [restrains himself]

You absolute cretin! That was BEFORE the first Gulf War when Iraq was reasonably free to buy weapons from other countries (like the United States). Since the Gulf War they haven't even been able to get enough spares for their surviving equipment or replace it with more modern equipment. That's one reason why the Iraqi army is less of an obstacle this time. That's why Saddam was contained. I can't believe you would display such complete ignorance of world events...

                          I don't know why I bother sometime...

I understand that was before 1991. But you seem to say that we should trust him when he says he has magically destroyed what was left AFTER 1991. ....cretin....

The iraqi military is diminished, yes. the iraqi army was always diminished except for the special rep. guard.

his regular army has always been starving and hating him.

You are a very biased person. Or at least someone that hates the us so much that you ignore everything presented.

                                at least be honest.

Perhaps you would care to debate khadir hamzaa?

oh, yes...i forgot...he was bribed by the us gov't as well.

                                my bad.
