No, but every act committed by a terrorist is an atrocity. Not every act commited by a uniformed soldier is.

Or maybe, I should take to disliking people who wear blue shirts and blow them up. That would be good. Civies, blowing up other civies is not good form. No matter how justified you think they are.

      • I hate you all for make me read a 9 page thread in so little time

Anyway I'm just sad because today, our only international organization that could solve problems between nations in a pacific way has died by the american and british hand.

Let see if Blair & Bush comes with some new idea to rebuild the UN... yeah right

Do not insult those who confront soldiers in rebellions by associating them with such vermin.
Oh great, those guys blow-up apartment buildings in several Russian cities, took just-born children, their mothers and doctors as hostages (like it was in 1996) or took hundreds of people who came to watch misical hostages (Nord-Ost musical tells you about something?) And their "military" leadership, their so-called president called this as "unique military operations". No, those guys freedom fighters, how anyone dare to call them terrorists?

            • The Sanctions against Iraq. Are they targeted to the Iraqi leadership? Noooo. They are targeted at the Iraqi people, over one million mostly women and children have died. Is that not an atrocity commited through legal means?

                • Another poor example. Saddam has built several mult-billion dollar palace complexes during the whole time the sanctions have been in effect so don't even try and blame it on the US.

He could have spent that money on his people.

Personally I have no inconvenience with how this debate is going along (even though I have practically the entire forum against me ). There are no personal insults or attacks. (so far...) As far I think, it's a pretty sane discussion about a very hot topic.

                        • Don't bring me that crap Drake.. Chile's resolution was accepted by Blair and Chirac, it was the only resolution "in the middle" to keep the peace and solve the problem avoiding the war, but Bush dismissed in just a couple of hours. Is a shame that your president is commited to war and not to peace... what a leader

No, they are terrorists, Serb. And Russia enjoys my full support in going after them where ever they hide out.

If some former republic hides them, go get 'em! Bravo. Neither they, nor the regimes that hide them are legitimate.

Chechnya declared independence along with the other former Soviet republics. However, Chechnya itself was never itself a Soviet republic; it did so unilaterally. However, it remained autonomous for the most part up until '94, when the crisis escalated.

Fact is, the Chechen rebels didn't help themselves by capturing Russians and threatening to execute them on television. Or by calling out for Muslim martyrdom.

If both sides could have been a little more cool-headed, maybe some negotiations and concessions folowing could have been made at the table, with Chechnya receiving at the least, more autonomy; as long as it let us keep our interests over the oil pipelines.
