We've invested too much already, he's come up with another reason to go. We're going to war no matter what.

Well.. I hope the situation develops to prove you wrong.

Yes, we have invested a lot... but it would save tons of money NOT to go to war... and again, think of the political clout this would deliver. Bush could laugh all the way home, proving he was right and his opponents wrong.

I think Bush would say high ranking Iraqui officials are linked with "you know who". So... War. Bush was always rather slow.

I agree Ming, because we have showed the "Resolve" necessary. If we need to go through with executing a Military action, so be it. But, We could withdraw if an opportunity arises.

I pray this happens. Time will tell...

I doubt it. If the situation went as Ming laid out, I fail to see any credible reason why he wouldn't declare victory and go home.

Instead of the 48h bull**** (Sadie will never leave), he should have ended with "our forces will strike in 5 min". 5 min later we should have obliterated the "Presidential Palaces" in the cities with cruise missles and smart munitions. Those outside the cities should be leveled by B52's. Then once the CNN cameramen i Baghdad begin showing the first pictures of the burning rubble with the dawn we would offer Sadie & sons safe jail cells (if they survived) and amnesty to middle level generals who remove their superiors from power.

I somehow have a strong feeling that even if Sadaam left, the US would still eventually invade in the months to come, citing "security concerns" or "internal agression" or some such Orwellian doublespeak.

Sadaam was never much of an issue in this war, it is a war of pure hegemonic assertion. Essentially the US wants to reassert itself as the bad boy on the block in this increasingly multilateral world by a show of force. Sadaam is simply an easy caricature to demonize in the minds of the American public.

I think he is giving him one last chance to leave... but I wouldn't be surprised if the war started before the 48 hour period was up

It's 48 hours or the first aggressive Iraqi move, whichever comes first.

There are lots of unemployed persons in US. Right? Bush need to create some nice chance for unemployed. In the military industry.

It was a good speech by a good man. He must be doing something right for so many radical leftists to hate him.

AFAIK, what GWB did - demanding a regime change - is illegal. That is, it violates international law. If you support this, you don't have a defensible position in accusing Iraq.
