        sleep. bah!

i'm gonna test the mobo with the power supply from the machine i'm on now.

when that fails (not if, when) i'll shower and sleep.

        i reek of silicon.

An ATX Power Supply does not "turn on" if you apply AC voltage. Yo must also "Short" the power on switch before it will start.

I was not following your upgrade thread. What CPU was your old one and what CPU is your new one?

the old machine was a pentium 133. old school.

i threw a new board / cpu / ram in there, doesn't turn on.

                you're cought up.

                  What processor?

btw, triple check the power jumper on the mbd that you plugged the power switch into. Sometimes manuals are printed incorrectly. Check the web site.

I take it the case is not new. If it were, I would suggest trying a different power switch. They are sometimes broken.

Last ditch, disconnect all the other front panel connectors from the mbd, except the triple checked power switch. Sometimes one of the other switches and or LEDs are defective and ground the system out.

Did you put in a Pentimun 4 CPU?

Yes, a P4 mbd will have an extra power connector. An older power supply will lack that connector, although you can get adapters for them.

No fans spinning would not be the first thing I suspected though. But it has been a while since I built one myself.

                            fawk. that would explain everything.

i hope these adapters are cheap / effective?

i shouldnt have to buy a new power supply, right?

The adapter may be hard to find. A new P4 power supply would not be too expensive, and much easier to find. However, you could use the yellow pages tomorrow AM to try some of the shops in your area. You might get lucky.

I could mail you one. I think I've got several, somewhere. I'm sure of it, I had to grab one a couple weeks ago for someone and there were a bunch there.

                                thanks NYE.

tomorrow i'll stop by compusa, look for the adaptor, and consider buying a power supply.

if i come home empty handed, i'll work something out with you for one of those adaptors.

                                thanks again everyone
