  • Blix found a "smoking gun" in Iraq?

Blix 'hid smoking gun' from Britain and US
From James Bone in New York

BRITAIN and the United States will today press the chief UN weapons inspector to admit that he has found a “smoking gun” in Iraq. Such an admission could persuade swing voters on the Security Council to back the March 17 ultimatum.

The British and US ambassadors plan to demand that Hans Blix reveals more details of a huge undeclared Iraqi unmanned aircraft, the discovery of which he failed to mention in his oral report to Security Council foreign ministers on Friday. Its existence was only disclosed in a declassified 173-page document circulated by the inspectors at the end of the meeting — an apparent attempt by Dr Blix to hide the revelation to avoid triggering a war.

The discovery of the drone, which has a wingspan of 7.45 metres, will make it much easier for waverers on the Security Council to accept US and British arguments that Iraq has failed to meet UN demands that it disarm.

“It’s incredible,” a senior diplomat from a swing voter on the council said. “This report is going to have a clearly defined impact on the people who are wavering. It’s a biggie.”

An explicit report by Dr Blix of the discovery of an Iraqi violation would help the six swing voters — Angola, Cameroon, Chile, Guinea, Mexico and Pakistan — to explain a change of position to their publics.

Unlike the outlawed Al-Samoud 2 missile, which was declared as a purportedly legal weapon, the drone was not declared. It would be the first undeclared weapons programme found by the UN and is considered by British and US officials to be a “smoking gun”.

Why did Blix not mention this discovery in his oral report? It's hard to believe that he thought it was so insignificant as to not warrant a mention, as it is clear proof that Iraq's weapons declaration was a lie. What was Blix thinking? Will this sway the undecided members of the Security Council? It will be interesting to see how this plays out tomorrow. The plot is thickening...

Snooze. Hans Blix is an expert, so are his lads. If they think that said drone is not a weapon and/or it does not violate any UN resolutions, who are you, Jack Straw, and Colin Powell to say otherwise?

Well, we aren't Swedish for one thing.

Besides, these drones are quite capable of delivering biological or chemical weapons, and spreading them over a large target area.

I agree that this isn't anything too noteworthy. It seems more like it is just something blown out of proportion in a desperate 11th hour gesture to get support for the American resolution.

Its not BS at all. At the end of the Gulf War, we kicked his ass. He signed a peace agreement and agreed to disarm all his weapons of mass destruction. It was in the terms of his 'surrender' (IIRC). We dictated this, because we kicked HIS ass, and could dictate what ever the hell we wanted. He could have exiled himself, adn leave power, or he could live in power under our terms. He decided to live under our terms, but he is not. That is (one of the reasons) why we are going to oust the son of a ***** once in for all.

If Saddam doesn't have chemical weapons then why is he busy building delivery systems? I am afraid many of you leftist appologists take your hatred of America to far. You ignore the obvious truth because it is politically expedient to do so. I suspect that deep down (even if your political sensabilties will not let you admite it) you know Saddam is hording illegal WoMD but you choose to ignore that fact and play fanciful games in which the U.S & U.K. are equated to Saddam's war crimes because it makes you feel good to imagine it is so.

Saddam is building aerial chemical weapons delivery systems because he wants to use them to deliver chemical weapons. This is not rocket science and even dullards like Urban Ranger can figure this simple fact out.

All the usual suspects were pretty quick to dismiss this. The US/UK must be on to something...
