He didn't get fired for being anti-war. He got fired for being stupid.

Yes, at my job site, I'm going to debate and harangue my coworkers.

Frankly, all he had to do was say - "I hope you're right." and no one would care. Even "I hope you're right, I dislike casualties on both sides." and I doubt anything happens, but to say "the media is there to see it so that people like her can see all of the women and children who get killed and realize what they support" is just plain idiotic unless you know who you're talking to.

I wouldn't go up to a rabid anti-war person and say "I hope they bomb every Iraqi they see so that the world will be a better place." It's stupid and irrlelevant. He was at work - if he thought she was an idiot (which she probably was judging by her reaction) then tell her so or ask her to quit yapping about Iraq and work.
I never know their names, But i smile just the same

I'd bet there was a whole long story as to why this man's employer was dissatisfied with his job performance. I seriously doubt it was just being anti-war which caused him to be fired. Agrueing with and haranging co-workers was probably just the straw that broke the camel's back.

I was not ranting about a liberal conspiracy.

In fact I was tyring to point out the opposite.

I was trying to disprove that there is a conservative conspiracy.

A free country is more than having laws which protect certain behaviours, it is also having a tolerant population. I think the US (especially some areas) has the first covered but not the second. And without the second the first is useless.

If I was in the UK I could walk around with a T-Shirt saying "Tony Blair is an evil dictator" and the only comments I would get would be "Yeah, right on!". I could burn a flag and no one would care. I can be as unpatriotic as I like and no one would give a hoot. Not so in the US with the crypto-fascist "our president" and "our flag" and "our way of life".
Well here we have the right to tell you what we think of your t-shirt, just as you have a right to wear it. I like that, though any attempt to intimidate is going way too far, and should be prosecuted. Where did / are you living in the sates? I see people all the time sporting the sort of attire you claim would be impossible. There are a variety of beliefs here, and unlike your description of the UK, people are willing to let you know how they feel, even if they disagree. We let the Klan or the Nazis or Farrakhan's people meet publicly, and use our own tax dollars to defend them from those who might disagree with their views violently. You have a right to speak freely here, and the people via the government will protect you to the best of their ability should you be threatened for your beliefs. But we do not guarantee that your viewpoints will be welcomed, nor are we so polite that we are above telling you that you are an a$$ if we think so.

                    • Back in the days when I first met my lovely girlfriend she had this black shirt with the word 'Terrorist" written in red over her chest. She's not wearing it anymore. I wonder why....

                        You need a new perscription.

                        • Im not saying that this is happening, nor that (in that extent) it will.

All I´m trying to say is that these kind of things quickly get out of control if not stopped right away.

There are plenty of examples, some even from recent US history. You must remember (not implying you are THAT old ) what happened to Asian Americans after Pearl Harbour, or what was happening during the 50´s with the big witchhunt for Communists.

So instead of being lippy, you should think about these things.

Hardy Har Har. I think of all sorts of things. I just don't share your fear that we are on the verge of another bout of hysteria driven repression. Our hysteria has peaked, and I don't see a national mood that would support any of the things you mentioned in your post. If it comes to that point, or even close you can be sure that I will fight it to the best of my ability. But right now I see more danger from the decades long war on drugs than any of the home front measures of the war on terror.

                            • Now thats a post I can appreciate. Not that medication stuff.

Then again, I might have been a tad bit unclear with my initial post...

I think you all got my point, though, so no blame on me!!

I wasn't calling you crazy, just nearsighted. When I said perscription, I was referring to corrective lenses. (referencing the "I see ...." stuff in your initial posts) Anyway, I'm glad we can respect each other and share a laugh.
