it's ok i guess. i'd prefer something bigger, and taller ala that frank lloyd wright design(the mile high or something).

If you're going to build a phallic object, give it girth!

I like it! Honestly, I don't think it's that bad. I prefer more conventional, classic ziggurat-style skyscrapers, but if you're going to make it modern, then this is pretty damn decent, in my opinion.

Yeah I mean it fits in well with the skyline, it adds something to it where the old towers were kinda just big ugly boxes.

Glass curtain is so passe. They really should do something unique - anybody can rig up several large boxes with glass curtains. In fact, there are lots of those around here.

No! It was designed for Chicago, not New York. I'm sorry, but I was born in Chicago and it has always bothered me when people suggest that THE Illinois should be built anywhere other THAN Illinois. New York should get it's own design, not someone else's IMO.

It's simply a lackluster design for a site of monumental importance. I would embrace a project like this in any convential large city and note it as a success... but in terms of replacing the WTC, it falls more than short

Although I'm not too fond of Ghery, he seemed to put it well in saying that all of the worlds top monuments should be easily recognizable from a 10 second (max) free hand drawing. Here we have the ever elusive horizon fallback sized towers in a vain impression of quartz growth, which has absolutely nothing to do with anything at all (but perhaps wowing citizens with full glass facades, much like raccoons who have stumbled upon a piece of tinfoil). BUT - then we see that the architect(s) have made things all better by erecting a pathetic and finacially non committal "world's tallest" sewing needle, sporadically dotted with gardens in attempting to answer and deny the organic structure fad

Who designed this anyway, Daniel L?

Well, I too was hoping for a Wonder of the World type of impact, but this one was the cream of the crop compared to the rest.

And light years ahead of round 1. Those were such flops.

i agree new york should have their own design but all their designs haven't been nearly as good as the mile high imo. would you rather have the mile high built somewhere else(eg new york) or never?

                                I'll vote "never"

Seriously, the old Illinois would never be built anyway since it was designed at a time when the building codes were different from now. FLW envisioned it being built of concrete. Yeah, it would never be built as designed, so they'd have to change the design somewhat. Then it would cease being the Illinois and lose its intended character. The designs they've done thus far for WTCII all pretty much suck, but at least some don't suck as much as others. If they DARE build that God awful STUPID lattice thing, I'll drop out of architecture and become a celebate monk!
