Ive had the last three days off. We were all packed and ready to convoy to Fort Sill and suddenly we had three days to spend with our families. So I've been staying at my mom's before coming here to do some stuff. Then it started snowing and freezing rain and it took nearly three hours to drive a distance that usually takes two. Now I know people up north will say you dont know what winter weather is but for Arkansas, it has been bad.

Oerdin: Yeah the Anthrax shot was nothing. But like you said the second one may give some of us some problems. A guy in my unit was pissed cause he had managed to dodge the shot for a couple of years while active only to get it now in the guard.

Spraybar: I doubt anyone has actually gotten sick because of the shot but I'm still sort of irked about the perminent pimp like bump the second one left on my right arm.

You're going to Fort Sill, huh? The home of arty and all male basic training units. I went through there once on AT and I must admite Sill has more sex starved 18 year olds then your average Catholic school. Unfortunately there isn't much around there though there is a nice mall like PX on post.

BTW How are you getting so much internet access while on training for deployment? They put us in some crappy WW2 era barracks in Fort Benning (I mean really crappy. No hot water and astebestos falling off the ceiling crappy) where there were no telephones much less computers. You must be living high on the hog my friend if you have internet access.

I sincerely wish you a safe tour & try to avoid collateral damage.

(Did anyone else notice that after 09/11/01 the US media refered to civilian casualties in all international conflicts as civilian casualties? This only lasted about 4 months.)
There's nothing wrong with the dream, my friend, the problem lies with the dreamer.

We were staying on post doing our pre-mobilization stuff and were supposed to be there through Sunday when our state orders expire. Some of use were allowed to come home at night as long as we went back the next day. Well, all the snow and ice in Arkansas stranded many of us at home and since we had gotten all of our preparations done they went ahead and gave us that time off. We aren't on Federal orders just yet. If we were on Federal orders we would already be at Sill. I'm going back tomorrow morning. We could be put on Federal orders this weekend. (as I expect)

I had basic training at Fort Sill. It sucked like nothing else mostly because of the location. I did AIT at Fort Gordon Ga. Gordon is light years ahead of Sill since it is the Signal school. At Sill I didnt see a female (not counting the old women that worked in the mess hall) for about 10 weeks. AT Fort Gordon Ga, I was in a company that had females on the bottom floor and males on the top floor. On the weekends most of us stayed off post in motels

Hey everyone. I finally got a definite date of departure. I'm leaving here Next Monday for Fort Sill OK. Stay there for 2-3 weeks and head out to wherever they have a spot for us. Up until this week we were supposed to be attached to those forces going into Turkey, but that will likely change unless the Turks change their mind again.

I find myself with an extra week that I didn't expect to have. I've said goodbyes to everyone ( some people twice) And Now I find myself with nothing to do for a week. I have already quit my old job and been hired on to another one. All of this before I went on alert and of ourse it starts the week after I leave.

One of my ex girlfriends has said that she loves me and she was sorry we broke up and that she will wait for me to come back. Now she will feel akward that I'll be here for a week since she expected me to be going away this past weekend.

My cable is already disconnected, and my phone will be shut off on the last of this month. So here I sit wondering what to do with myself. Some of my friends are wanting to throw a party but I find myself wanting to take a low key approach to this. Just quiet evenings with friends and family before I leave for a year.

Over the weekend while we were all on duty getting the final things done, the State AG ( 1 star general) dropped by to pay us a visit. 20 years ago he was our company commander. One of his aides, who is a Major now, was our company commander 4 years ago. There is only about 13 thousand in the Arkansas Guard so you might say we are a big family. It's an interesting site to walk into an office and see a general, a major, a captain, a few sergents and a private or two talking about the general's new bass boat he just bought the previous weekend.
