It's amazing how people change the way they act once they know they can't take your presence for granted. A girl that seemed to barely know I existed now gets all upset that I'm leaving. People waste too much time on games and trying to appear a certain way. It's sad that I have to find out how she feels as I get ready to leave. Very sad.

If I were you I'd tell her this was your last night in civilization before heading out for war then you ply her with liquor and take advantage of the situation. I know several guys who did that before my unit was deployed and none of the girls seemed to mind.

She is comming over here but I don't think I'll be doing that. She has been taken advantage before.

It almost never happens my friend. Why? The higher ups don't want lovers squabbles so they sepporate couples who are fraternizing. If your unit is following the same SOP as mine did then you'll have a week or so at the reserve center before you ship out. Nights are best used carousing and remember to tell every cute girl you're heading off to war. You never know when you'll get a simpathy ****.

I'm not particularly liberal, but the force structure of the US military has been deliberately changed post Vietnam such that any major combat deployment of US forces requires mobilization of reserve and NG units to provide CS and CSS capabilities. That was done to force the Congress and the American people to have to make a commitment to support of any war effort, or to cut it off entirely, not play things both ways as was done in Vietnam.

That situtation wasn't the case in Vietnam, when civilians were being drafted directly into the US Army while the vast majority of NG units never deployed, even in part. Quayle was IA prime draft bait out of college, and without political connections, would never in hell have gotten into a 25% fat unit not scheduled for deployment.

Same with Bush jr., or Gore's protected, chicken**** "service" in Vietnam, where it was made sure he was kept out of danger.

On behalf of "liberals" like Daniel Inoue, Bob Kerrey and others, and every other "ass in the grass" 11-Bravo out there, I'd like to say Quayle, Bush jr and Gore and their ilk can blow me before they'd ever get an apology.

Yeah, for a short tour with orders to make sure he never got in any danger.

My brother figured out a way to attach his Mamiya camera to his M-60 so when he was flying (he was a door gunner in a Huey), he could take shots of whatever he was taking shots at. That's real combat camera footage.

Nothing quite takes the cake like LBJ's fraudulent Silver Star, though, that's still the all time worst for a major US political leader, at least that I know of.
