It is something pretty suprising. Everyone knows about the French... But soon, all the eastern-European countries shall join EU, and definitely won't support France as the "natural leader of Europe" now.
While I'm angry at our gouverment for its American politics, I am sure Chirac made a great harm to the French cause.

Heresson: When you talk about Poland's "American politics" do you mean supporting an end to Saddam's regime?

Paiktis: I am just curious...Would your anti-war stand continue if Iraq actually had weapons of mass destruction and used them? What if he launched a bio-attack against Athens?

I'm not saying that it is possible or probable...just wondering how anti-war you would be then.

I could respect Chirac's 'backbone' more if he wasn't in fact setting up the nuclear program in Iraq to begin with.

Well, by gosh, then! Mexico and Canada should've been courteous enough to inform the United States of their stances prior to going public with them! Do you really think this should be a normal practice within the North American Free Trade Association? Bush had all the reasons to be frustrated.

The problem with France is that the frogs think they are still as powerful as they were 200 years ago. I hope they wake up one of these days and stop the Catholic Church-influenced, conservative, DeGaulle-like BS.

                        Not quite.
It's generally about being so much pro-American. Well,
Americans (and Italians, later British and the French,
of closer nations only Swedes are high) are the most liked nations here, but c-mon... It's really close to ass-licking. And we do not get nothing in return. Turkey gets a lot of money... Israel gets a lot of money for being thankful for that USA does what it wants... And we are doing everything just because we like them? That's dumb. I'm a student of arabistics, but I do not feel obliged to support Saddam's regime. But I'm not quite sure about USA's intentions for sure.

                        Catholic Church-influenced
That's silly. France is the most secularised state in western Europe.

And when it was presenting their opinion, did they ask any of those countries?
