Now I have even managed to get here with my new laptop and post this message. So far things are working, fine except that I still need to find all the manufacturer specific drivers, plus finish of the setup.

        Attn: Monolith

Intel CEO Craig Barrett on Apple Powerbooks:
Play free online games and win real prizes at Gembly! All your favorite solitaire games, card games, dice games against real players. Play and win!

Young Wil Harris, from a British hardware site, Bit-Tech had the astonishing and laudable temerity to ask Craig a question on case modding.

To which Craig had the perfect reply. He had a question for Wil, who uses an Apple Powerbook.

When, he said, are you going to get a real computer?

At which point the spotlight and the cameras turned on Wil, so making him famous, as around 650 hacks from around the world were watching the exchange.
There you have it, monolith, definitive proof!

Even I have an input on this issue now.

The external Iomega HDD's software bundle reminded me that the selection of software available for Macs is much smaller than for PCs. The FW connected HDD can be used with both PCs and Macs, but the backup software is only available for PCs as there's no direct equivalent Mac version available by the same software producer.

          One more...

The laptops by Apple are much more expensive than portable PCs. For the same price as I would have got an Apple PowerBook G4 867MHz, I got instead the system seen in this thread, plus additional memory (now 512 MB in total), an additional HDD (now 150 GB disk space, compared to the 40 GB by Apple) and additional software. I don't pay for the Apple logo, which you seem to do.
