We need progressive taxes. Hell, I read somewhere that the lower 50% contributes only about 5% of total tax revenue. Lets stop taxing them on income. Sales tax is terribly regressive. So are speeding tickets. Lets progressify speeding tix.

Just because the tax is flat, it doesnt mean that it isnt regressive. The percentage of tax is the same, but the percentage of that tax on someone's income is a lot more on the poor then on the rich. That is what makes it regressive.

Which is why when you are rich, you have more of an incentive to speed because a $100 ticket doesnt mean as much to you as to a poor person who makes $300 a week.

There is one big plus about a national sales tax, it will put all goods on the same playing field. Right now, goods made here are taxed at various levels while foreign goods are exempt from many of these taxes. A national sales tax would impose the same tax on all goods...

That's a good argument for a small national sales tax, but for sales tax to replace income tax is something else entirely.
