Loinburger, Frogger: Yes, I know. It has a well-known reputation of a terrible class here, between non-mathematics students, only can be matched by Diff.& Ingrl. Calculus 1 MM ( the two Ms mean that it's like the ordinary course, but encompasses more material, harder hws, tests, etc. )

What are the difference between Partial, and ordinary, Diff. Eq. btw?

yah, my linear alg was all theory

we only talked about applications at the end (for about a week)

      the physicists hated it

Do you know what partial differentiation is?

        Ordinary: 1 variable
        Partial: hell

10-15 hours a week for homework is not bad...
and I spend a lot less time than most
but I agree, don't be a wuss Ramo
I am a lazy bastard and I want:
          1. Decent grades
          2. No debt after grad school

I'm probably going to drop it.

O.D.E.'s deal in ordinary derivatives, P.D.E.'s deal in partial derivatives (usually differentiating with respect to time).

P.D.E.'s are a helluva lot more complex than O.D.E.'s in Numerical Analysis. If you're after an analytic solution in a P.D.E. then it's usually a good idea to just kill yourself. My final exam for Diffieq II was a take-home exam that consisted of solving one problem. It took me fifteen hours to finish it.

For my analysis classes, I did less than 2 hours a week homework for 10+ novel proofs per week. It's so ****ing easy, Ramo. Construct an open neighbourhood, assume thm. not true, see what it gets you...

And I took about half of average. Now bear in mind that this was in the same semester as PDEs with the worst, most anal teacher I've ever had (with homeworks of 25+ hours)
yah, tha PDE class sounds like some of the ones that I have had

my freinds often took ~24 for physics (undergrad E&M in particular)

and math freinds took a lot also, I think arround 20 (not as sure) - this was for classes like analysis 2 and topology

I was usually about 1/3 of average, but my secret was that I just quit doing it, not that I was done

                  ODE's are easy, PDE's are a *****.

So I guess I should be relieved?

I am having my Linear Algebra test the day after tomorrow. I think it's one of the easier courses. Of course, I had a kick ass TA. .

seriously, what do you mean by applications?

I don't think grades matter muhc

I know that mine were not the best (the whole quiting HW when it was 1/2 to 3/4 done did that to me)

Except we've got maybe 50+ novel proofs/week in complex. It is hell.

I had complex analysis prior to having analysis.
Yeah, complex is easier than real over here. Mostly 'cuz the physics people usually take complex but don't take real.
