Sorta. But that isn't relevant because a)I would not expect people to support me going to war, and b)I would simply go AWOL rather than go to war, except in absolute self defense. Actually, I was joining the military to get my way through college/law school paid, and valuable free experience. If you went AWOL Floyd then they'd give you an opportunity to be come acquainted with a military disciplinary barracks. I’ve never been an inmate in one but I hear they make civilian jails look like heaven.
There is also no statute of limitations in the UCMJ or time off for good behavior so they can pick you years later and you’ll still have to serve your time plus extra for escaping justice for so long. I remember a case about two years ago where a middle aged guy in Minnesota got pulled over for a speeding ticket and the policy computer said he had gone AWOL from the Army in 1968 so they hulled him away.
