Imran, I just re-read your comment, who were these upper class people who suffered from the prohibition laws? Joe Kennedy? Grandpa Bush (I can't remember his name right now)? These guys made their money bootlegging.

These guys made their money bootlegging.

Because they were smart not to get caught. Also were involved in the mob (the Kennedy's especially). Preston Bush was never involved in skirting prohibition.

You think the Busch family didn't suffer from prohibition? Hell, their business was taken over by the mob! And what about the middle class speakeasy owners that spent some time in jail.

I agree with you. It isn't just an attack on the poor, it's an attack on anyone who cannot afford a good lawyer.

Um... no. It's an attack on anyone that may wish to pursue that which the moralists do not like. Wall Street bankers that want to do coke are going to be very secret about it or be dissuaded from some of their friends that did time.

The lower middle and the middle middle class certainly do suffer from a lack of access to good lawyers.

Sorry, you're right, Prescott wasn't involved in bootlegging. I got that confused with his supposed tunneling of funds to the Nazis.

        [1937

Prescott Bush's investment firm sets up deal for the Luftwaffe so it can obtain tetraethyl lead.

        1942

Three firms with which Prescott Bush is associated are seized under the Trading with the Enemy Act.]

Anyway this drug war conversation is all well and good, but it detracts from the main reason for the thread. Why another Iraq war? Isn't simply to divert attention from the Bushes' and Cheney's involvement in another megabucks scandal. Maybe I'm crazy, but the whole thing stinks of misdirection.

MosesPresley, really, do you think Enron news is more important than the present conflict with Iraq? If anybody cared, they could always find what they want to know with a little research. But the media has priorities.

There is no conflict with Iraq. It is a smoke screen, to divert our attentions from other matters, imo. North Korea is the real threat, but for some reason, maybe oil, we are not threatening an invasion to disarm them.

Look, I don't pretend to know what is going on here, but I keep seeing lots of red flags.
