The United Socialist States of Maridia is a very large, safe nation, renowned for its barren, inhospitable landscape. Its quiet, industrious population of 56 million enjoy extensive civil rights and enjoy a level social equality free of the usual accompanying government corruption.
The large, liberal, socially-minded government juggles the competing demands of Social Welfare, Education, and Healthcare. The average income tax rate is 30%, but much higher for the wealthy. A substantial private sector is dominated by the Information Technology industry.
High-income earners pay a 100% tax rate, all major public areas are watched by police surveillance cameras, all tarrifs have been abolished, and citizens select which government department gets their income tax dollars each year. Crime is totally unknown. Maridia's national animal is the evir, which is also the nation's favorite main course, and its currency is the orange dollar.
