It's very interesting actually. While the Labor is the offspring of Mapai, security wise the more radical Right Wingers of the Likud(the offspring of Herut, Mapai's great foe) are the ones who share Mapai's views.
So that radical Sharon 30 years ago, in addition to the economy issue, with all his anti-arabism was fitting to Mapai's policy quite well. Well, he was a bit too active, but at least ideology wise it's true.
