He's a ****ing moron, as with every politician from BC I've ever heard of.

I still don't think a DUI charge should warrant resignation. If the people don't like it, they can just not vote for him or his party when the next election comes along.

You equated traffic offenses with a criminal offense of drunk driving. No one would call for a cabinet minister's resignation over a speeding ticket. Witness Flyin' Phil Galardi.

In addition, opinions can be wrong.

This is hugely damaging to the Liberals as well as the province. Even if you support the Libs agenda, it would be dubious to continue to support Campbell because with a massive majority and only two opposition members Campbell himself is now the biggest obstacle to the implementation of the Lib agenda.

But I quite agree that several federal Liberal cabinet ministers should also have resigned. They now have at least three $1B misspending scandals: HRDC, Gun Registry, bogus claim GST refunds. Shameful, shocking and disgusting are my opinions on the conduct of the federal Libs.

But BC should never be looking to the wacky Federal Gov't for moral and ethical guidance.

I think DUIs are actually more serious in Canada than the US.

Apparently he's only going to get like a $500 fine max, and 3 months suspended driver's license for it?

Even in Alberta, they were talking of implementing a new system where if you fail a sobriety test you instantly get your license revoked (even before court) and your car impounded, and some insane fines...

You nailed it right there.I.for one,don't want a moron running the show.If he can't make the right decision about returning to his hotel,how can he be trusted to make the right decision over something like the privatization of BC Hydro?..or spending 600 million for an Olympic bid?,or running a deficit?etc

If he doesn't resign, though, the only way his party can get rid of him quickly is to pass a vote of no confidence on the floor of the assembly. Which brings about an immediate general election given that there's no significant opposition to form a government. Which they probably want to avoid. So if Gordon really has the best interests of his party at heart he'll resign. If not, he can give them a rough time.

Bush had a alcohol problem long before he ran for president and he dealt with it. That shows strength of character.

As for the conviction, we have to take the social attitudes of the time into account. When Bush was convicted, drunk driving was considered a minor infringement. Times have changed and we now realise that the damage it causes and we now consider a crime.
