  • Why the US has to be and should be "imperialist"

ideally, major nations should not be pushing smaller countries around but it's bound to happen... and it's far better that the US is involving itself in the affairs of foreign nations than having China or some other country do the same...

why? because the US is a superior country. aside from the higher standard of living of americans compared to the Chinese, for example, the US is also on a higher level of nation as the US is an idealogical nation. China (as well as nearly every country in the world) is an ethnic state... a Chinese empire would undoubtedly oppress the non-Chinese and base their entire nation on racialism. The US has great ethnic diversity and, because of this, is a more socially advanced country.

better the US than the Chinese or the Russians or whoever else...

To be fair though, the Chinese aren't trying to force their culture on people, they're about as isolationist as they come.

But I agree with you in a way. If intervention of any kind by Western nations leads to improved human rights/living conditions for the people of that area we should definitely consider it.

Bear in mind that most other people in the world don't really agree with this.

a Chinese empire would undoubtedly oppress the non-Chinese and base their entire nation on racialism.
Maybe, maybe not. But right now China is only really oppressing Tibet and its own population. It hasn't been very imperial for some time now.

There is the concept of sovereignty, which most people take rather seriously.

Imperial America is a terrible idea. It does not exist, but there are those nutjobs who want it to (see "hawks in Bush Administration" for more).

Oh, and Dino I agree: I suspect this will get some lively responses.

I was going to do more... but I just don't have the energy.

            A) The US is not a 'superior' country.

            B) In the city, diversity may abound. But the reality is different...we're still, on whole, a nation dominated (demographically) by Whites and Christians.

            C) Just because we're more powerful militarily and economically does not mean that we have the right to play the father figure to other nations. We should use our influence whenever possible, and do our best to encourage our ideals, but we should never physically force these on others. I feel we should only act under the United Nations to solve problems within other nations, when all other options have been exhausted - never acting in such a way on our own.

The United States is, without a doubt, the most socially advanced society in the world...

pre-civilized tribes were family oriented... you lived for your clan... as civilization developed, the emphasis switched to racial groups... nations were made up of racial groups (ie- germany made of germans... france made of french... china of chinese...)... the United States is one of the few nations to reach the next level, being an ethnically diverse, idealogical nation...

we are superior in terms of the progress of civilization...

The USA is the country that destroyed an entire civilisation and oppressed the black population until 1968.....

Thats a matter of opinion, Personaly I think the US has the worst standard of living, the desire for profit and nothing more is not a humane one imo.

I think most people in the world would consider Europe to be more advanced socially Alb.
Does that mean we should surrender to our new benevolent European masters?

That is absolute crap. The whole of the mnodern world will be lucky to even reach the level of the Ancient Greeks. Don't tell me a country made up of red necks and paticularly stupid middle class is the most progressive.

A sign of how un progressive the USA is, what is more important then your family and friends?

how in god's name is the US not the most socially advanced nation in the world... Germany is a racial nation... Sweden is a racial nation... in terms of the progress of civilization, those are inferior forms of statehood. a multi-national idealogical nation (ie- to an extent the Roman Empire and the various Islamic Caliphates in the past... and now, much more pronounced, the US) is superior...
