Chicago couldn't get a good QB in the draft if they put Joe Montana in a wind tunnel.

        • I agree with both sides of this argument -- the bears should draft Leftwich if he's there AND sign a quality free agent backup to Miller. (But if McGahee comes out and is there, TAKE THAT STUD. The Penn St. dude, I haven't really seen.) Leftwich has a GUN for an arm and plays hurt. Like that a lot, even if he's not very mobile.

We need impact players on offense. That's all Miller needs to be really effective. Terrell will be back, Booker will be back. It will be a make-or-break season for the A-Train, which is why all our free agency money should go to beef up the line.

The Bears are currently $1.5MM under the cap, before dumping dead wood like Marcus Robinson. And the cap will go up $3 - 5 MM.

The defense will come around through better health. But until we get some serious playmakers on offense, we'll be spending all our time praying to hang onto 6-point leads in the 4th quarter.

If no Leftwich, I like the kids from Iowa and Iowa State. NOT Ragone from Louisville or simms from Texas. Losers. Will Eli Manning be coming out? he looked great in his bowl game.

One last note: I'm really amused by the QB comparisons via fantasy stats. (Chandler-Miller and Bledsoe-Brady both earlier in this thread).
Get serious! it's about team leadership and execution under fire, not completion percentages and QB ratings.

          • What about Kingsbury at Texas Tech, he might be a decent middle round pick.

            • McGahee would be stupid to come out now. He's on a team with the power to be a perennial national champion. Why not bask in the glow and get even better than he is now?

Tell that to Rookie Of The Year, Clinton Portis.

Option A: enter the NFL draft, get picked in the top 5, get huge immediate signing bonus and 4-6 year multimillion $$ contract.

Option B: stay in school another year, play football and risk career-ending injury before seeing a dime.

Why not bask in the glow and get even better than he is now?
Heck, even if he becomes a better player, it doesn't mean he'll be drafted higher. Plus, he loses a year of earning power while risking something silly happening.

                    Get serious, reismark.

Ah, but that's the problem... which quality FA QBs are out there and will the Bears offer enough money?

                      • You never know with the situation in St Louis... And unlike some of the other sports franchises in Chicago, the Bears have always been willing to spend the money. The only problem has been, they don't seem to know how to spend it right

                        • Very true... but what if Bulger turns out to be a Rob Johnson. Great one year, and then everyone figures him out the next?

                          • I'm willing to take that chance. At least he can throw a frozen rope pass more than 20 yards. That would be a step up on our current situation.
