Does anyone else but me find it ironic, when Republicans are based like this, that Abe Lincoln himself was Republican?

      What?

Is this song not true to history both current abd past?
The ways of Man are passing strange, he buys his freedom and he counts his change.
Then he lets the wind his days arrange and he calls the tide his master.

The parties have completely changed since then... in both beliefs and constituency. What makes you think that what was true then is true now? That "Party of Lincoln" phrase is only a catchy anchronism.
        Lime roots and treachery!

I am aware of that Seven. That's what I find ironic.

Promethus, come on now. Most of what is in those lyrics can be easily applied to most states. It is a distortion of truth for a political purpose. Spare us.

It is far more true in Miss, AL, LA, TN and GA. In those areas white racism permeates every facet of life. It's quite pitiful.

Ah, my mistake then. I took that in reference to this:

Frankly, I don't see the problem with the comment that Lott made.

Oh, and jt, I can at understand the rest of your points, but I don't get this:

Seeing as how the Democratic party is so heavily supported by blacks, how is it wrong for Gore to pander to his constituency? I mean, that's a crime every politician is guilty of...

It's not pandering to his constituency. It's blatant demagoguery. There is quite a difference.

I think its a shame that dueling has been outlawed. I think when people make statements like Gore did about Lott there should be an option to settle it honorably.

Also ironic is that America's greatest demogogue was also a Republican, McCarthy, Joseph R.

                          (a) next week, it'll all be forgotten

                          (b) as long as ol' Trent brings home the bacon, the good folks in the great state of Mississippi won't give a fair damn

                          (c) The Democrats have neither the credibility or any alternative voice that can make a workable issue out of this.

                          (d) It ain't like ol' Trent wanted to be President anyway.

Every member of congress would give their right and left arms whilst rogering their own grandmothers to be president
Space is big. You just won't believe how vastly, hugely, mind- bogglingly big it is. I mean, you may think it's a long way down the road to the chemist's, but that's just peanuts to space.

Not true at all. Many members of Congress have no desire to be President, because that would mean moderating their stances.
