Declassified documents form the old Soviet Union show that the communists were planning to stage a coup, backed up by Soviet troops still deployed in the area of northern Iran occupied by Soviets from 1943 to 1951. The regime in Iran was too waek to even demand the withdrawal of the Russians and was taking no action against the local communuists agitating riots throughout the country. At the time of the coup the democratic regime had less than one month to live according to Soviet plans. Had there been no intervention the Ayatollah Kohmeini would never have bothered the US because he and his kind would have been the first to die under a communist satellite regime. Indeed, even if he had managed to escape to Paris he still would not have lived, because in the 1950s the reach of the Warsaw Pact extended to clandestine executions of dissidents in western cities. The Warsaw Pact was much, much more efficient than the Shah could ever have dreamed.

BTW, if the west and the US have been so pervasive and ruthless in their control of politics in the middle east, how is it that the "Arab Socialist" movement ever managed to take control of Egypt, Syria, and Iraq?

Talking about selective memory.. Or just amnesia?

You have seem to be forgotten the Brittish presence in the rest of Iran.

Russia's influenced couldnt even get a grip on Tabriz, only Baku (todays Azerbayjan) fell in their influence, while the whole of Iran came to be ruled by Brittish-installed clown Reza Shah the Cossack without a known father

Because the west thinks socialism is better then fundamentalism, got it?

        • Alireza, I'm having a hard time pinning down what you are for. You seem to be for everything that OBL is for except that you say you are against fundamentalism and OBL.

Are you in favor of democracies in Islamic countries? If so, you will find that the United States and Europe, for that matter, are on your side and are not your enemy.

The problem I see though is that you seem to place Islam and not democracy at the center of your political beliefs. This is why I think in the end you are in Osama bin Laden's camp.

Hmm... DL or not? Due to sheer volume of the posts, I'm thinking not, actually. That's more effort than I expect from a DL.

Iraq wasnt aligned with the USSR, where did you hear that story? Saddam came to power after having deposed of leftist president Abd al Karim Qasim and was supported by the west in that. Only after the invasion of Kuwayt did he flirt with the USSR, then, at its end of days! So you are pretty wrong and pretty damn silly.

Mubarak had nothing to do with Jamal abd an Nasser. Nore was Nasser the start of a long line of Egyptian dictators.

And Ataturk who throwed out many European forces did this in the name of ISLAM, the kurtulus savasi, or "war of freedom" was a Jihad in which he called upon Turks, Arabs, Albanians, Kurds and other muslims to get rid of western powers in Anatolia. Only after the war, did he abolished the caliphate and installed a pro-western state. You might have never heard about the outbreaks of opposition against Ataturk right after the war of the muslims of Izmir, Konya, Trabzon, Yozgat, Sivas, Diyarbakir and many many other cities, by which the butchering of Izmir (after just having been freed from Greek armies????!!!) and the brutal opression of the Kurdish rebellion of Shaykh Said in Erzurum.
Hhahahah Most of Iraqs weapons came from the USA buddy!
This is a joke right? In the 1950s, 60s, and 70s. Syrai and Iraq were ruled by the Ba'athist Party, a political party allegedly pledged to merging socialist politics with Islamic culture. Sadat was Nasser's vice president, hisd hand picked successor. Sadat had been part of the revolutionary movement within the Egyptian military even before Nasser! Mubarak was Sadat's vice president, Sadat's hand picked successor. A group of Islamic extremeists put Mubarak in power by executing Sadat.

Hussein was a high ranking member of Qasim's Ba'athist party. He did not have the support of the US in his coup, he didn't need it. The majority of Iraq's armor consists of old Soviet T-55, T-62 and T-70 tanks, the smae models used by Sadat in the '73 war. The majority of the rifles carried by it's infantry are AK-47s, likewise the primary arm previously used by Egypt. The majority of Iraq's jets are MiG 21s and MiG 27s, again, once the favorite of Sadat as well. The Scud is also a Soviet weapon. All of these things point to one thing: Iraq was closely allied with the Warsaw Pact up to the fall of the Soviet Union in 1991. Sadat's Egypt was also a client state of the Soviet Union until the Soviets let them down during the '73 war.

Ataturk's political movement emphasized the need for Turkey to adopt modern western ways in order to survive from it very inception. Among his first acts was to throw out Sharia law. He also banned the veil, the fez and a variety of other old customs many of which had religious signifigance. He did not abolish the caliphate until after the war because he did not have the power. He was opposed by many traditional Islamic groups precisely because he initiated secular reforms.

                      Is this paiktis?

As for technology and numbers,... ppooooor poooor guy.. Technology is universal and can be acquiered by every man or woman, regardless of race or sexe or whatever. You should be very naive if you think the (diminishing) technological edge is staying there for ever.
let me know when Iran developes a missle defense system.

As for the numbers, you are a small minority in this world, exploiting the vast majority of resources shamelessly. You are investing in your own death. The world shall not look and stand by. Its a question of time. And time runs out! Physics say this situation is ready to explode, it cannot stay like this.
If the world has to decide between America and terrorists, who will it choose?

Your people are all intoxicated by decadence, egoism and arrogance,
The same could be said about you, except that your leaders keep the decadent part for themselves.

while confronted with billions of highly ideological non-westerners, who have only started to build up their counties!
The main purpose of a government is to protect it's citizens in their pursuit of life, happiness, and liberty. We think of our citizens first, just like every other country. We also give foriegn aid.

How do you want to defend your countries in some 50 years from now, with senior citizens???
Why will we be defending our country with senior citezens?

I was referring to the great churches of Istanbul, the rest of Turkey, Syria, and the holy places of Israel. The original owners never left. There are still Orthodox Christians in Turkey, Syria and Israel, and there have been Jews living in Israel throughout the past two millenia as well.
