it doesn't look to good though, what with the numbers of Jews declining and the numbers of (hostile) arabs increasing..

maybe if they work out some kind of fedration with the palestinians (like in bosnia). but that's another discussion I guess.

If demographics will stay the same, then I'll agree with you. I hadn't seen that research.

In addition to demographics, I'm also concerned about another Arab-Israeli war. If Israel is returned to its '48 borders, it will provide a tempting target for a massive Arab attack. If you guys didn't have nukes, I would consider such an attack inevitable. With nukes, it is somewhat unlikely, but who knows? And what if Iraq or Iran or some other enemy of Israel gets nukes? It chills my blood when I think about that...

Israel will NEVER return to 48' borders. 67'ish yes, and I even support it, but 48' is uneacceptable, esp. with most of the pop in that area, both arab and jewish wanting to retain their citizenship. In a conventional war, the only nation standing a chance against Israel is Egypt, and even that is hard because Israel has got such a dominant position now , surveillance-wise, that Egypt has no chance to launch a sneak attack, which is their only hope, if they wish to attack and win.

Wouldn't a two-state solution return Israel to the '48 borders?

'48 borders = after war of independence, no west bank and gaza

'67 borders = after six-day war, with west bank and gaza

That's why I was talking about, at any rate. Maybe my terminology is wrong...
