I'm actually watching First Contact now. To be honest, I only recorded it because I thought there would be loads of cool starship battles in it, but I was sorely disappointed.
"Paul Hanson, you should give Gibraltar back to the Spanish" - Paiktis, dramatically over-estimating my influence in diplomatic circles.

Yes, that one was supposed to be the TNG's version of the TOS's Voyage Home. More characterizations than action, and more humor taking advantage of going back in time. But it failed miserably.

the good thing about First Contact is that it appeals to non-trekkies.

The same thing was said about "voyage home". But even you have to admit that 'first contact' wasn't as good.

personally, I do prefer voyage home.

but of all the TNG movies, First Contact was the best.

I'm a family man, so it will be a while before I can sneak out of the house.

This movie is hailed as "the last generations movie", so I father that there will be no more movies with Picard. Does anyone know if there are future plans for other Trek movies? It would seem a little long since the endings of the series for them to try making a Voyager or a Deep Space Nine movie.

There I have to agree with you, First contact was the best TNG one. Which emphasises my point. The best TNG movie is not as good as the, what, 3rd best TOS movie. So mediocre is considered the best TNG. Hopefully Nemisis will be better than mediocre.

                  My top 3.

                  Wrath of Khan
                  First Contact
                  Undiscovered Country.

I think lots of trekkies like first contact.

I'm surprised no-one likes "The Final Frontier". Mind you, I only liked it because the whole prospect of William Shatner outwitting God amuses me intensely.

The final frontier was god-awful IMO. The only good part was a line McCoy had when someone questions whether or not the entity they have found is god.

"Goddammit, you can't ask the almighty for his ID"

Voyage home is a bit better IMO, but not much.

FF was really bad, but IMO, only the second-worst.

                            My ranking:

                            1) Khan!
                            2) First Contact
                            3) Undiscovered Country
                            4) Voyage Home
                            5) The last one, the name escapes me
                            6) Motion Picture
                            7) Search for Spock
                            8) Final Frontier
                            9) Generations

Though I would have had search for Spock a little higher.

i'm not a trekkie but i don't mind watching it. i know some of the major characters from various seasons or whatever, but i dont know episodes by heart and cant recite them word for word.

"come on man, it's star was versus star trek! it's like a rogue band of x-wing pilots trying to save the reellion versus... versus... i dont know, some stupid thing about saving whales!"

i'l probably end up seeing nemesis with someone.
