    The focused light is from in between the rubber eyepieces, and the hard shadow is due to the fact that the binoculars are close to the President's face. With the distance of the eyepiece to the face, the maximum width of any light source coming through the binocular would be about 10-11 milimeters at either eye. The width between the inner sides of the eyecups is about 30 millimeters, and with the sun angle, (look at the light/shadow demarcations on the four-star to Bush's right, and the bright reflection off the right sleeve of the CSM to Bush's left., the bright patch below Bush's right eye is in the right place.

    Nothing in the photo shows any signs of tampering.


    Hell, I've done that with binoculars, and I own a few. At least half the time when I give them to someone else, if I haven't taken the caps off, people do the same thing. I'd imagine the mainstream press wouldn't use the photo, because it's really meaningless, except to mock the President, and most people would do the same thing (find out the caps are on when you look through them), so it's not even a good point of mockery.

      Okay, I see it now. At first I thought the light was coming through or under the binocculars, but it's coming down from above. If you look at the corner of the Prez's eye, you can see it's brighter there as well. So the bright patch is coming from above, not in front.

                          How can you tell you have left the caps on unless you look? The is what Bush is doing, checking to see if the caps needs removing or not.
