  • Prejudice peeking through?

Ohio State is the absolute pits academically!

I'd take Miami, UTenn, or Alabama over Ohio State anyday!

    • LOL....

Truth be told my judgement of schools is not what it used to be.

For example, we moved from Delaware/PA area to come down to Georgia so that our kid(s?) could be in some decent schools (grade school and high school level) only to find GA ranked dead last and PA ranked 11th IIRC.

Shows what I know about school systems.

      LOL...

Guess I'll make sure to stick with Wharton and PSU.

      • Sorry, but only GA&S is not selective at OSU, which does tend to hurt its overall reputation. But at least they take the land grant thing seriously. OSU is on par or superior to all four of those schools in most programs, and is the absolute best at others. I would rate them as an above average large state school. Not one of the elite, but definitely not the pits. For the record, I am an OSU graduate school alumni. The grad school and pro schools have a better rep than the undergraduate program, and are very selective. I studied electromagnetics. OSU is probably in the top two or three programs in the world for e-mag.

        • Ogie, as a graduate from a GA school I just have to laugh at your story! People come from Pennsylvania to Georgia for economic opportunity, not because the schools are better!

Too bad Ogie gave up his high-paying job in PA for his kids lackluster education in GA.

              • Well... so much for the discussion on education values of different schools

Miami survived against Pitt tonight. This might have been their toughest game left.

Ohio has one last tough challange left.

If they both survive, the BCS will survive another year without looking bad.

However, if one or both should lose... Then all of the BCS faults will be on display again.

I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

That's where I disagree... I personally don't think that OSU or Miami are the best teams in the country right now. With a playoff, they could prove it

If you care about who the best team is at the end of the season, then OSU and Miami may not be it. If you care about who has had the best season, however, these two are clearly the best. College football is about quality over the entire regular season, not which team is the best in December.

                      • I care that the best team in the Country wins the national championship. And in my opinion, the best team is a team that can win when the chips are down... when it really matters. A playoff would do just that. It would bring out the best... and let the lossers fall by the wayside. Frankly... I don't care if a team went undefeated in the regular season, but then lost when it really mattered... because in my opinion, they aren't champions. Both OSU and Miami have looked average at best down the stretch... Granted, they have still won their games, but neither look as good as some of the other teams playing.

So you basically don't give a **** about the regular season and consider it irrelevant. My worst fears about a playoff system have been neatly summed up in one post. Thanks!

                          • The regular season GETS you to the playoffs... making the regular season VERY relevent. Thanks for disproving your whole argument in one single post

OSU getting away with a lucky victory against the happless Illini this week isn't my idea of championship team. Miami gets to end their season by beating up to lossers as well (assuming they can do that)

Let them prove they can win against the best teams.
                            Make them play the games.

Heaven forbid if the best team wins the nationa championship (and yes I think the best team in the country has 1 loss even though there are two undefeateds).

Drake: I dunno, you seem to think that there is a going to be a 100 team playoff starting in Week 1. You have to win the games needed to make the playoff you know. It ain't easy being in the Top 8. No team right now ranked 8 or higher has more than 2 losses.
