There's no death penalty in Wisconsin. It's one of the civilized states.
Christianity: The belief that a cosmic Jewish Zombie who was his own father can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree...

Oh well yeah, I can tell. Masses of 10 year olds beating someone to death.
      Definitely civilized.
Life is not measured by the number of breaths you take, but by the moments that take your breath away.

Only civilized until you get 30 minutes out of milwaukee to the south towards Sheboygan kenosha and wannabe milwaukee racine. Then you find everybody between you and chicago is a wannbe hick. Wannabe cause there not. Nothing against hicks. But nothing is worse than an imitation hick.

And why would you feel the need to explain your "hick" feelings, Lauren?
Che knows, and accepts, he's a hick.
That's what you meant, isn't it?

We get about a murder once a year in our city

There were some teenagers out making a hell of noise a few nights ago in our street. Some neighbours dealt with it with a few well chosen dire threats - but the threats were a few smacks in the head and hard kicks up the arse, not gunfire.

But milwaukee?! that's the midwest! alright but I always figured people in trailer parks (and bikers) organized themselves into gangs so I guess these old midwest former industrial cities would have their share of blight and similiar problems. still odd though.

They just hang out on the corners all day smoking and drinking. Fighting and sometimes vandalizing.
As long as there's no drug dealing and robbing stores, that's not that big of a problem for the community honestly, as sinful as those people are.

              thanks

I wish you well Speer and all your friends - such nice kids I thought - give us all hope for the future. No place to bring up children your neighbourhood.

                  AH:

Actually once a year in a non-section 8 apartment building isnt that bad. I go about half a mile away into the Whitehall projects and its there that they got a murder every few months. But still thats nothing compared to the neighbourhoods that people call the real ghetto up in north philly... **** is ridiculous up there

How big is your city though?

                  thanks

Yep, the Midwest is this one big farmland with a few suburbs and Amish Communities. Oh, and Chicago, and Detroit, and Indianapolis, and Cincinatti, and Cleveland. Not much, nope, not much at all.

Oh, and I would think that the amount of violence is on par emotionally with what other generations had to deal with. You know, slaughtering farm animals, hunting, etc. It's just that now, it's fake.

Only 300,000. Its kind of like a university town or a big country town, even thought its the national capital.

We don't have anything like the murder rate you got there in the US because hand guns are almost impossible to get and there are automatically heavy prison sentences for carrying or using almost any kind of weapon.

Just cuz Philly's the friggan armpit of the East Coast, and the only good thing you can say about it is that it ain't Camden doesn't mean that the rest of the country doesn't have it's problems. There are big cities in the Midwest. Bigger than Philly even. With serious problems. Take Gary, Indiana (please!). A few years back the police were out fought by a gang with bullet proof vests and automatic assault weapons.

You'll probably find the guy wasn't "beaten to death" but hit his head on the pavement or had a heart attack or something like that. The story sounds like a bit of a beat up (excuse the pun) to me - anybody got a link?

Those kids shouldn't have been attacking the guy but I suspect they were unlucky. That's the risk you take when you physically assault someone. A lot of people are in jail for "bad luck" like that.
