The worst thing about waiting tables...

The worst part, for me and funny now, when I was waiting tables, was the waiter nightmare. I don't know if you any of you have had it. In my nightmare, I have to wait on a huge number of tables and I am unable to get to any of them. The customers are yelling and no one is getting anything and more customers keep coming in. Any of you waiters ever had this dream?

I AM a Northerner. The difference is startling once you are emersed in Southern culture.

Frankly I find it impolite for strangers to talk to me with meaningless chatter.

        But hey, different standards.

Che is right, southerners are far more polite, at least in my experience.

              Question about southern hospitality:

How well received would it be if I walked around holding hands with a man? What if a kiss happened?

Would they still be so polite and generous?

The South is a very weird area, it's only polite if you meet their criteria.

Asher, I see your point, but gays get assaulted in the heart of San Francisco, which is practically a safe haven for homosexuals.

People get assaulted anywhere for anything.

The South is still, by far, less receptive to the idea than San Francisco or Canada...

What really annoys me is when a restaurant is run by a cheap-skate owner and doesn't employ nearly enough people to properly run the restaurant and regardless of how hard you work, people will still be annoyed by your lack of speed and service and undertip you. ARGH!

I can't be arsed to read this whole thread, but are you trying too hard? Maybe relax and be yourself. See what happens.

not you either: i am very good at waiting tables, and very good at getting people to see me exactly as i want them to. I promise you, it is a genereal consensus here. Black people on average just don't tip as well.

But asher, the response you would get in the south would still be the response you would get anywhere else. even though it isn't normal for southerners...

I don't wanna pee in your corn flakes, but what if they sense that something is up because you are managing yourself because they are black?

I am not that perceptive. I prolly could not tell the difference, but then again I have not lived my life waiting for the stuff that a black person lives with every day.

Were I black, and were I to sense a difference in the person I was dealing with as opposed to what is going on at the tables around me, it would certainly have an effect on my reaction. You might try too hard?

                          That's all.

Read the part where I asked my Black friends about it, including my GF of 12 years.
