Perhaps I do. I won't though, because it was terrible.

What I was saying was that the media seem to be able to tie almost any event to 9-11 to make it more dramatic or something. It happened. We can't change that by mentioning how terrible it was on a regular basis. It was most certainly important, but it was not/is not the most terrible event that has ever happened in history.

And you can't change it by ignoring it, or shooing it under the rug either. You can encourage it though.

The thread started with an article about how many people are dismissing the event due to anti-American bias and a plea not to let that happen.

I for one do not see a problem with that.

Is that what you saw? If it had been that, then I probably wouldn't have even bothered answering. Can you honestly say that you find the article reasonable (not just in what you perceive as general gist of article...but in what he actually says)?

His expression is fuzzy. It is emotional. But, that is what I saw.

You have pointed out many of the faults, but the intent remains.

I don't want to change it. I think it was bad that 3000 people had to die, but while they did, it was a 'good' (I use this word in the loosest sense) wake-up call. No, we're not invincible, and *gasp* not everyone in the world loves us.

And question real quick -- how does moving on get considered as "encouraging" an act? If someone were to hit my car in a parking lot, I'd be mad at them, sure. But when I got over it, would they feel obligated to ding my car again?

Let me get this right CaptainGarlic. An attack on the United States that consumes 3000 civilian lives, sponsored by a semi government agency of a third country is like a ding in the parking lot?

No, my friend. That's an analogy. At no point did I say the scale was comparable, or that they were equally acceptable/forgettable.

But I don't want to be living in a paranoid hell, where I'm frequently told how terrible terrorism is, the horrible things it's done, and that I can't sneeze without fear of being struck next. But that's what it's like now (without the gross exaggeration), and until people accept that it happened and move on, it'll stay that way.

If you live in some parts of this world you can never forget what and where the terrorists will get it on next.

You live there now. Welcome to the rest of the world.

Going back to the origional point though, people just make too big of a deal out of it.

As a person in an inconsequential posistion, my fretting over what might happen won't change whether or not it may happen. Let the people who may be able to avert it spend their time thinking about how to do just that. In the mean time, paranoia won't help; it'll just make living a happy, normal life all the more difficult.

You are correct about life CapitanGarlic, unfortunately the article was about international policy and the effect feeling against Almerica would have.

I don't think he is saying you should live in fear. I think he is saying that the big we should do something about it.

                        Agreed.

Glad the debate could end without throwing chairs, or anything of that type. I'm getting tired as hell, so I'd probably end up really putting my foot in my mouth (moreso than usual) after a while.

                        G'night.

Oh Good Lord. It's Tony Parsons.

My, my. If some of those saying "Him speak the truth" knew this man's track record they might start questioning the article....

I've still got some ancient NME's where he used to compare Reagan to Hitler, suggest that Hawaii should be used as a concentration camp to house everyone who's ever been to Disneyland, and openly advocate Stalinism.
